Well done , its about time these one eyed so and so's get their just deserves . Whats this , now about 5-6 threads on CN locked because of their continued attacks , and all we as mere mortals can do is shake our heads ,,, again At least Istar gets a good rap on , 'Astronomy Forums' , 'Stargazers Lounge' and others without these lawyer types practising their poison there .
If you want a good read , google 'Ice in Space' and go to 'Astronomy Forums' then 'Equipement Descusions' and find the thread 'Achro for Luna Photography' that's mine and there are a few nice luna shots taken by me and low and behold ,,, there are achro bashers there as well but the majority realise a good thing when they see it .
And Mike I am glad to hear you did well out of the trip to the SCAE show .
Keep up the good words all .
Brian.

Perhaps another thread should be started on CN with just pictures of your Istar scopes and lighthearted stories of viewing nights using them BUT without any reference to Strehl or chromatic aberrations etc. Just stories about the enjoyable times at the eyepiece. If anyone comes in with disparaging comments about CA etc (ie off topic) ask the mods to remove such posts. I for one would be interested to see how long that thread stays unlocked.
The thread title should be: "Enjoying Astronomy with my Istar scope (post your personal experiences)"

That's a good idea guys. I can't do it because it's promoting Istar scopes and that's forbidden by the rules. Mikey, Joe and Kevin are too obvious. It needs to be someone not as well known. Which of you will volunteer?
"Enjoying Astronomy with my Istar scope (post your personal experiences)" get my vote.

I could not post anyway...banned again for sending a telling like it is PM to a moderator:
"Your account has been banned or locked: Continued disruptive behavior after several new warnings and two prior bans."
What a sad life Barnett must have, nothing better to do than make up crap about a bunch of people trying to give a new business a shot; how petty and small. While he was busy posting bias last night CN, most likely in an attempt to steer clear of a dreadfully ugly wife, I was enjoying crisp and clear views of Saturn with the Forfax.

[ You must remember that Barnett is now reading the posts over here. [/quote]
So it really doesn't matter who starts the thread, does it?

You're right Jim. I guess it wouldn't really matter.

I'm anxious to see whether they will clean the end of that thread up or not. Notice they took out the post by the mod from NC praising me for observing the rules? He posted thanking me for the information and now it's gone. I guess there is a hierarchy among the moderators? It doesn't say edited by so and so, it's just gone.
I'm with you Kevin. As soon as the weather breaks here, I will be outside looking through scopes and not talking about them so much.

I am taking the Forfax to my parents 50-yr anniversary this weekend, our entire family rented a ranch along the Central Coast of CA in the coastal foothills for a week. Along with it will be the C-8 my dad bought me in 1977 or 78. I hope to turn the kids in the extended family onto astronomy using these two beautiful instruments.
I fully expect everyone who looks through the ISTAR to ask me where the lens was manufactured and if it was tested in Germany as they view Saturn with their jaws dropped, at least I will be ready for it....

You mean you actually look through telescopes? Aren't you just supposed to memorize the specs and test results? You better get that C8 collimated or the 140 may show it up I've been checking my mailbox everyday and I don't remember getting an invite to this event. You just tell everyone that your scope was tested by the best method possible... an eyeball in south Florida

Dear Istar Group,
Though I have left the various telescope fora far behind, it saddens me that Istar has become a victim of repeated bouts of internet bashing.
In the end, the truth will always prevail, no matter how much they continue to cast aspersions over the company. Ultimately, it is up to those among you who own an Istar product to speak up against such prejudice, not by insulting other human souls, but by your testimonies, forged in the field. Nothing beats real experience under the stars. And nothing convinces more!
For my part, I have spent the last few years promoting the virtues of many achromatic refractors, from various manufacturers. I reviewed the very nice Tal 100RS, and an army of amateurs now enjoy its many charms. I reviewed the AstroTelescopes 102 f/11 a year before Sky & Telescope did and look how well it is doing now. I was the first to review the Skylight refractors and they have been highly successful too.
I have also reviewed no less than three Istar refractors- apos and achros- and all have turned out to be great performers.
All these reviews can be found on my website and/or on Cloudy Nights. And if that isn’t enough, you can find printed versions of the self-same reviews in back issues of ‘Astronomy Now’ magazine, published well before the current tirade began.
I own and regularly use a 5” f/12 Asteria R30 refractor and it is, without a shadow of a doubt, a professionally made instrument, the finest, in fact, that I have had the pleasure of using in its aperture class.
I did not come here to blow my own trumpet but to ask those who are sceptical of Istar a question. If my assessment of these other models proved to be correct – products that have gone on to become hugely successful in the amateur astronomy community – how could I be so wrong about Istar?
The simple truth of the matter, as I see it, is that Istar actually offer the best value for money of any large refractor manufacturer. They are constantly innovating and have a great work ethic. Their designs are proprietary and should not be shared with anyone, just like any other established telescope manufacturer.
Ales and Mike have been perfectly cordial to me and I know that, should I ever have a problem with any of their products, I’d receive a full refund, with no questions asked.
Can’t say fairer than that now, can I?
So, Istar users: Speak Out!
Sincerely,
Neil English

Damn it to hell I thought my last post went through!! Well anyways I want to again set the record straight on my response as to the coprrect spelling of Zdenek Rohr's name. It seems to me anyways that most everyone is getting it wrong....half the time and correct the other half. I knew better but in my CN(refractors) post I too got it back asswards. I didn't reread my post and I normally do. Had I done so I would have caught my typo. I have several emails right in front of me personally sent to me by Rohr. These came during my lens making decisions. See I too am a mere mortal and glad of it. Mike

Barnett, being a liar, ah, er, lawyer, I mean, uses a typo as some kind of proof that he was right about everything. Problem with most lawyers is that they equate winning an argument to being right. Probably why he stretches the truth so far in trying to win. Oh well. He's a small man who thinks he knows everything and can't quit when he's wrong. I'm done with the arguing. He really isn't worth the effort now that people have seen his true colors at CN.
Neil. Absolutely right!
