I do believe Ales has finished a visual corrector for CA. I think Ales will update the information on this product soon. Hey Glen (or Ales), Any more details on when this may be? I'm looking forward to it as I think it's going to make an already great scope basically perfect (for visual anyway...). Thanks, -Gord

I've not heard from Ales for quite a while. I do hope he can shed more light on the subject. I'm certainly interested in these correctors. I'm sure Ales would sell a great deal of these.
Perhaps the move to APO optics is taking his time up?
Regards. Glen.

Hello Glen, I am still between the hospital and home, having some post-surgery problems, sorry guys for late replies, I hope to be fully recovered within next few weeks. Regarding Raycorr, we have the visual 3 element version more or less together design wise but we want to produce the Pro6 version together with this simple visual version and we are very late with that one, I know... We did not give up on this project and as soon as we are done with all the new projects which are in part already pre-paid like our 180mm Petzval Sextet Astrograph, several Achromatic Plus R30 and R50 lenses and three more LF Lanthanum APOs and other APOs we will get back full force back to this project. So please have more patience with us, we are doing all we can under the circumstances, thank you, Ales

High Ales. Just curious. will the Raycorr work with the R30 and R50 lenses? Also, I'm just trying to remember, but are there different versions of the Raycorr for short and long focal length scopes?
Thanks Joe

Joe, did Ales ever give you an answer on this question about the Raycorr? Because I am also curious about this.

No. Not yet, Mike. I suspect he's pretty busy right now, getting the new products on line, and our respective scopes and lenses delivered, so I'm reluctant to crowd his inbox. If he contacts you wrt your scope, maybe you can add a link to this post in your reply. I'll do the same if he has any news on my lens.

Actually, I emailed him yesterday (Saturday) and among other subjects I asked about the Raycorr. I'll post his response.

Wasn't the original called a Chromocorr? Since I have no experience with them I'm wondering how much light is lost? I always question when you have to add more glass in the light path. It's just like Celestron's new HD scopes. A lens set is in the tube to flatten the field and/or take the curve out of the edge of the field. However, I guess to take the CA out a little light loss might be worth it.

yeah, I think the Chromocorr was like 700 bucks, and had to be matched to your scope's SA. I remember reading, not too long ago, that they would still make one on a custom order basis, but at a high enough cost to not be worth buying one for a C6R. If Ales didn't get too far off track with the change of glass type used, it should be a lot cheaper, a lot easier to use, and correct for other aberrations as well. I think if the price point is anywhere near the original estimate, (I think it was somewhere around 200 buck, before ISTAR's across the board price increases) I think they will sell a ton of them.
I don't know how much glass is put in the path, but a triplet uses an extra element, so you have at least that much more added to a doublet before you're really adding glass with the Raycorr. If it brings an achro close to Apo in performance, I think it would be well worth any light loss there might be. Let's face it, you have to add an awful lot of glass for any light loss to be even detectable. Think Ethos vs. Brandon.

I have several things to post just haven't had time in the last few days. Unfortunately, the Raycorr will be another six (6) months. The good news is the first release will be a visual only model for $300. The next release will be an imaging/ visual model closer to $500. This is still quite a bit less than the original Chromacorr which was about $700. I think the $300 is very "do-able". It's no more expensive than a good eyepiece. Some more good news is it will be extremely easy to use. The old Chromacorr was difficult to set up. The Raycorr can be installed in seconds.
I should note that 6 months doesn't mean that the project has been put on the back burner or anything of the sort. There is a lot of time being devoted to it's developement. When it's released, it will work very well and add a new "dimension" to Achromatic telescopes.

We will soon introduce a new line with R30, R50 and/or R60. The line will be called Asteria.
I will post more news in the next couple of days.

Hi Mike.
I saw David Cotterell posted the following in Cloudy nights forum.
Raycorr LT3 - three element for visual only. OR Raycorr Pro6 - 6-element for photo use to cover up to a 12x12mm chip without vignetting. For both types the purchaser must determine if his scope is over- or under-corrected and ask for the appropriate focal length range. Will cover focal ratios f/5 -f/8, f/8 - f/10, and f/10 - f/15. So there will be six LT3's, in all, I gather. Over and under corrected at three different focal length ranges. And six Pro6's as well, I assume. Both devices thread into the nosepiece of your 2" diagonal.
LT3 AVAILABLE LATE 2011 PRO6 AVAILABLE IN 2012
Are you able to give us some update on the above, as most of us are definitely keen to get the LT3......

Still would like to know if they will work for the "R" achros.
