You guys have seen my post concerninga a new 6" F12. I will be mounting it on a Celestron CGE. I haven't much experience with long focal length refractors. My concern is counter balance. Since the objective is all the weight in the tube... I want the scope tube to be half and half at the mount saddle. This way the eyepiece will be a reasonable distance from the ground when looking at the zenith. I'm thinking in order to do this I would have to have extra weight at the focuser end. Right? I have a Stellarvue 80 Triplet that I thought I might piggy back. This would give some weight. But should I depend on that? I've been looking at counter weights from ADM Accessories as I have done some business with them and like their products. Suggestions?

Nothing wrong with a set of sliding tube weights. They kinda' look "refractorish" if you get my drift. Just mount them 180° from the guidescope to give some radial balance too. 8-)Mike

I really don't know who sells this kind ofstuff except custom made stuff like Ken Dauzat his website can be found on Cloudy Nights home page as a sponsor. Look carefully at the rear end of his 222mm blue refractor and you can see he has a sliding tube weight assembly opposite his finderscope. I'm sure he could make a set similar or to your likes. Personally I had to have a 15# chunk of aluminum with a 4" o.d. bore as a tube extension to mount my focuser to. Then I have several sliding 2# weights that slide on to my declination adjustment rods. Like Les says "think outside the box". ;DMike
