New LENS CELL Style developed by iStar - 2015-04

Just wanted to share news about development of new style lens cell which I designed during past few weeks. The biggest improvements are in 3 segment centering channels, 3 segment bed/pressure ring design, semi flexible ring to off-set temperature changes and curved, super precision CNC machined air space segments. This style cell should prevent "pinched lens" during transport / impact, improve tilt tolerance, and avoid development of secondary astigmatism caused by uneven, random 3 point pressure on front lens or over-tightning the retention ring. Production cost of these new lens cell will be higher compared to standard, currently used lens cells but the improvements are for sure well worth the money.
First lenses mounted in this new style will be the currently developed R70 Semi APO line of doublets. First 204 F8.9 prototypes will be introduced in September 2015.
I will share photos of this new lens cell in about 3 month time.
