Just wondering how many others out there own an ISTAR OTA.
Am I the first in the US? Chime in, what do you own and where do you live?

Nice Mike, you'll be the first APO in the States? Depending in how long your scope is, ask Ales to put a high density foam support in the middle of the box in addition to the ends.
I have the achro 150 f15, came in a single box that was just over 11-feet long.

I got my 8" F8.8 during last Oct 2010. I may not be the 1st one to own an ISTAR-OPTICAL OTA in USA or Europe, but I may be the 1st to own one in Asia.
I am from Singapore, in the South East Asia region. As Singapore is just a small island, and is heavily light polluted, many of us travel oversea , for our star gazing activities.
Since I've brought the 8" scope over to another country, Malaysia, I left it there with the owner of the resort, so that whenever I want to go star gazing, I just bring along my losmandy mount and accessories.
I hope other who also own the ISTAR-OPTICAL products, can also use this forum to tell more about their scopes and themselves.....
Best Regards
James Ling

James, I saw your video on Youtube. I watched it a few times. It's quite entertaining and I mean that sincerely. If you take anymore please let me know. That's an unusual place to setup along the highway. If you ever have time to take a few good resolution images of the scope I would enjoy that also. Ales says it's going to be about 2 more weeks. I am busting at the seams with excitement.

Seriously... 11 feet long? Why so long. How long is the actual scope. Mine has a focal length of only 1876mm. So, I thought maybe dew shield and focuser... 7 feet long?

James, I read your post in "Achromats" and it answered many of my questions. Please keep us informed with your progress with the IStar.

Mike Serious, just about 11-feet. The scope itself is nine-feet long with the focuser attached. What mount are you going to use? Did you order the rings and dovetail?

Holy smokes! 9 feet long. I will be using a Celestron CGE. When it's on the "wheelie bar" it's about 75 inches tall. I'm hoping except when looking at the zenith I'll have plenty of room. Yes, I ordered Ales' rings and Losmandy type dovetail. So, the focal length is about 1900 mm? I'm trying to figure out what I'm missing. Why so long?

I'm with you... that thing is awesome! What do you do when looking straight up. I'll bet you could practically lay on the ground I see the palms. Are you in Florida? Mike

Funny you mention the palms, Ales wants me to set the scope up near some and shoot some photos for his website...I would comply but I just wish the weather here would cooperate, I think I have used the scope only three times since it arrived.
I'm in San Diego.
Viewing while things are at the zenith is actually quite delightful. I have a small beach chair under the scope, the eyepiece is exactly at eye level. It is very comfortable.

Enlighten me... Your scope is an F15 5 inch right? So, about 1900 mm focal length? Why does it need to be so long? 1900 mm is only 6.25 feet... 8 to 10 inches of dew shield and 6 inches of focuser (by the way what kind of focuser?) That only adds up to 7 and half feet.

Okay, the box is a little shy of 9-feet, I was trusting the measurement my 7-year old had made for me, sorry for confusion.
The scope, I just remeasured, is a few inches shy of 9-feet with dew shield, focuser adapter, and focuser attached. I purchased a motorizied Moonlight.
