Hello all you Istar Fans, from California, USA...
I am a 27 year amateur astronomer, having owned over 50 telescopes, 18 mounts and numerious eyepiece types, filtering and tons of needed and much used accessories...
I will remain a die hard astronomer, but recently due to health issues I am forgoing my persuit of astronomy to focus my attention on my injuries, hoping to regain my health one day and continue this hobby. I also wanted to write a little bit about Istar Telescopes, THEY are Excellent Performers!!!!
I currently use an Istar WTF 204 f /5.9, with additional accessories I've added, it remains one of the best telescopes I have ever used, owned and viewed through. I have owned Many Takahashi's ( 14 total, you can find my article about the Mewlon 250S, my prototype was the first "S" version ), and while you can not beat a "TAK" for it's visual clearity, out standing image and contrast quality, my Istar has held it's own against some VERY GOOD and Brillantly made telescopes...
There are many things you can say about the 204, beyond it's size, to the way one would hope a large refractor woud be like to use and view through... While it is only a "doublet" or better known Semi Apo refractor aka "Achromatic" their inherient " fringing" of false color is prevelent, but with the size of the 204, with a little creativity, you don't even notice it, in fact with the image quality you gain from this size refractor YOU honestly won't care!!!
From a recent posting from Ralph Aguire, you can gain a very good viewing report, but there were many more nights what I used tghe scope and was "awed" by it's peformance...
Enough for now...Clewar Skies ALL!!!
