I'm a new member here, so a kind hello to everybody! I just got a 100mm f12 acro, so I'm very happy I have to assembly the telescope with the tube and focuser, so I have a question for you guys: what lenght do you suggest from the lens to the focuser? I will use it with a 2'' diagonal for standard visual work, and next with a Hershel prisma for white light solar visual and imaging work. Marcello

Hi Marcello. When I built my 150 f12 I did a full ray trace on paper. Decided on the illumanted field size 37mm for me and went from there. I used the mininum baffle method for baffle placement. I used a 2" focuser as well and made sure I left enough backfocus for binoviewers too. Heres a photo. Happy building! Matt

Hi Matt, thanks for your hint and compliments for your scope!
Actually I did not plan to put baffle at first, just a black velvet sheet inside the tube to avoid scattered light
I will study a little about the field size (I supposed there was just a correct distance from the objective to the focuser)

Hi Marcello.
I'd be interested in what you find on the Illuminated Field size. There wasn't a lot on the subject but I understand it to affect the number and placement of baffles, and what the intended use of the refactor is. That is a small IFS is more of a planetary scope…is that correct…..anyone else?
When I get the time I will dig out the ray trace for my scope and add another one, for say a 24mm IFS, and see what that gives in the number and placement of baffles.
Optics…an interesting subject.
Matt

Hi all, the length of the TCR-like structure I made for my 100F12 is 96 cm, add approximatively 2 cm for the plate on which the focuser is fixed to collimate… I can achieve focus with all my eyepieces (from 6.7 to 40 mm) in a 2" diagonal and with the herschell prism as well. Of course you have to take into account the length of the focuser. Chris
