Now I have finished my Istar ATM I want to take some photos. The tube is white and every time I take a photo the tube comes with a halo around it. Now I know the scope is heavenly but what do I as a total non-photographer have to do with my camera settings….the manual is long gone! All I use is the auto function. It's a cannon point and shoot idiot proof (supposedly) camera. Help/suggestions appreciated! Matt

Are you using a flash? In sunlight or artificial light? Can you post one so we can see the problem? My reflector is white but have not tried to photograph it yet. Maybe I'll try to take a pick of it tomorrow and see what happens.

Here is what I get straight from the camera. No flash and outside. The white tube has the halo effect. It is possible to tame it with photoshop but I would rather not have to do it. The sun is off to the right in this picture, but doesn't make much difference. The lens is clean.

It looks like condensation in the camera may be the cause. Is it a fixed lens camera? If you have a red led type light try shining it into the camera at an oblique angle in a darkened room and see if anything shows up.

I forgot to say, regardless of the halo the telescope looks amazing!

Beautiful scope. It looks like some sort of condensation to me also.

Well….good idea to shine a light down onto the lens. I did that and what do I see, a nice big fingerprint on it. Hmmm ,looked clean in the daylight but far from it! I would have thought with a point and shoot that it was next to impossible to fingerprint the lens. So when it stops raining I'll get out there and take a few more photo's with a clean lens Thanks all for pointing me in the right direction.

Yes Matt , the scope looks amazing mate ! . On the halo effect I had the same thing with my Nokia 1020 phone , took me a while but it was a tiny smear on the lens ,,, peanut butter ? after a careful clean its as good as new . Here is a photo of my Takahashi , and it looks like your problem , condensation I would say as well . Brian. Attachments:
