Istar Asteria 150 F8 R35, Nagler eyepieces and a Panoptic 35mm on a Unistar mount in my observatory. For the first time in years there is nothing more to purchase or fix.

Thanks, I'm planning on old age - Clean and Simple.
At this point, I don't anymore care for an auto-pilot mount. Men are natural hunters and gatherers so I get more gratification doing it myself... plus if lost while star hopping you wouldn't believe what I stumble across.
It's more like scanning a distant vista with binoculars (Panoptic 35mm) to see what you can see.
You know what they say 'the journey's half the fun of getting there'.
Good luck on getting your new Istar, nothing has looked this good in my observatory (chicks love it).

I can see why Istar have teamed up with Ioptron, the mounts have everything you need included with them as standard. The whole range also very reasonably priced. I couldn't believe how many supposedly portable equatorial mounts were on display in the $10,000 - $20,000 price range. And you still have to pay extra for a tripod - up to $4,500 extra! The bigger mounts that are in the pipeline from Ioptron will be an excellent complement to the larger Istar instruments.

I bought the iOPTRON IEQ45 8000D-HC. The mount is everything they are said to be. It will support 45 lbs with no problem. Right now I have an ES AR152 with an Orion 80mm short tube atop for a finder scope. The hole package weighs in at about 27.5 lbs. This mount does not even know its atop it. The alignment is so easy and the tracking is spot on and polar aligning is also easy. Another thing I like is the GPS built in takes all the guess work out of aligning. The controller has 358,000 objects in it. That should keep anybody busy for a long time. I bought the pier extension and the counter weight shaft extension also because of the scope weight to balance it and I needed it. The quick start guide that comes with it is good but I downloaded and printed out the owners manual. It goes into more detail which I found very useful. This mount with just about any of these scopes should be a very good combo and iOPTRON has excellent customer service also. Now I need to save and get an ISTAR. Being retired money is slow to save. Thanks --------------------- Bill
