Likewise, I'm glad JB finally had the opportunity to finally check an Istar scope out for real. Feedback was positive for me. Hoping that I'm on the last stages of the wait for my 8" F12 R35 lens as I can't wait to contribute some positive feedback similar to my previous experiences with an early Istar 6" F12 achro lens a few years ago.
All the best Paul

Hi Paul...
Your choice definitely won't be wrong.. Your scope is going to perform like F16, almost double mine at 8.8.... And I am sure the CA level is much lesser than mine... Maybe by 50%....and you should more details... And Everyone there is wtg to see your report....

That was my 4" f/12 that Mr. Barnett had a chance to play with for the last 2-3 weeks. I figured once he got his hands on a lens set it would quiet him down.

It was too small, It gets harder to make them good over 6 inches. DKD large lenses test bad, so Istar must be bad too. And his TV at three times the price is a little better! Yada,yada,yada...........

Mike: Easy big fella. I had pm'd Ales and he was aware of my loan and was thankful. He followed it up yesterday with public thanks for Barnett's response after using it. Barnett did say the Istar outperformed his Synta but I don't actually recall him saying any particular scope outperformed mine. Maybe I missed it.
Now...Joe, yes, I see where he's come back with his yada, yada about bigger lenses. It seems to demonstrate a little disengenuousness. He initially posted he wanted a 6" Istar scope, now he claims that lenses over 6" are harder to make well. "Yeah, so what? You want a 6". "

I went a bit overboard with my reply here, I will simply leave everyone to say and write what ever they want about ISTAR Optical, without asking the actual owners to step up and question the bashers. But I will of course appreciate if the actual owners of Istar optics will share their experience publicly. For this I sincerely thank you. Best regards, Ales Istar Optical, owner Ales, Are you ok with all experiences shared publicly? Thanks, -Gord

Geez Gord, why are you putting him on the spot?
What do you expect Ales to say beyond "I will simply leave everyone to say and write what ever they want about ISTAR Optical"?
Respectfully, Jim

Hi Jim,
As I discussed with you privately, I'd like to give Ales a chance to respond and see how he feels about things.
Thanks,
-Gord

I'm really happy with my Istar 150 f-12 achro. I guess there are 2 basic types of amateur astronomers. Those who use and enjoy their instruments and those who use and enjoy word processors. I don't think I have anything to prove to anyone but myself, and I'm quite happy with my Istar.

Brian,
That's an impressive array of "guns" you've got there. To be quite honest about it, I probably use my 15 x 70 binocs on a parallellogram mount more than any other optic, just because it's so easy to set up when it's below zero here in Montana. During the warmer months, I break out the 17.5" Dob and the Istar 150 on its G-11 mount.
