Ok folks! I've taken the plunge and ordered an 8" F12 R35 lens from Ales. I believe it will be a 3 month wait for this piece of glass but well worth it!
I did a lot of mind changing between an F12 & F8 (Sorry Ales)
But decided in the end that I could handle an F12.
Planning to put this in a 12 sided wooden tube design.
Big thanks to Ales for his ongoing advice and wishing Istar continual success throughout the new year
Regards Paul (Will post up progress when the build begins)

Excellent choice. I would go for this one myself if I had an extra space where to mount this beast. I must stick with 180mm in F12. We are looking for another buyer of 204 F12 R30 so we are able to keep the price down at around some 3000 dollars. We will know exact price by first week of 2013- We will post it right here on Istar Scope Club and on our web site of course. If we are able to produce at least 5 units (for this we need at elast one, or, better two more buyers) the price can be kept low. If we are forced to produce only 2 or 3 units each lens will end up costing at least 800 more. So ANYONE looking for the new 204 F/12 R30 SLIM Anastigmatic doublet, contact us right away. You will save yourself lots of money!! regards, Ales

I am very interested in having this new optics. I love the aperture and of course the long focal length!

Paul,
Why did you finally choose the f12 focal length and not the f8? I have the same dilemma...

Paul, Why did you finally choose the f12 focal length and not the f8? I have the same dilemma... Hi Vzsohar, Mainly because I believe that with the R35 version at F12 I will have correction equivilant to F16. Hoping that I would not have the further expense of the Raycorr. Also, if after testing the lens on a crude wooden beam rail (taking fl measurements), I decide that an 8ft tube is too much then I've the option of designing a single fold. Yes, I agree it was a dilemma for me too but I believe that I've made the right choice now. Sleep well with your desision making! Paul

Ok folks, I've had the heads up from Ales that I could be receiving the glass by the end of the month. I've a temporary crude beam ready to star test and take focal length measurements before deciding on type of build. May even go down the TCR route! (easy way out I guess and light structure to push!!)
Will keep you posted
An excited Paul!

Paul I have asked for and received similar correspondence acknowledgement as to a few R lenses being assembled and shipped out soon.
