I'm stil waiting for my ISTAR. I want it so bad, I feel like a part of me is missing. I wouldn't dream of trying to hasten the process, and the long wait is mostly because I couldn't make up my mind. So, what am I to do? I certainly don't ever want to become a pain in the ass customer, yet I'm so anxious, I feel like crawling out of my skin. I desperately need a diversion! If anyone cares to help me out a bit, how about some people start posting something to read here? I'm not fussy. I do appreciate the few regulars that do post occasionally, but I really would like to come here and see that everyone that visits at least cares enough to say "hi" once in a while. What do you say people? can you give just a little to help me though this hard time? Just punch a few keys or even a well placed emoticon. Anything. Joe

Hey Joe wait 'til you near the eighth month of your term....er I mean your order!! That is the sole reason I've never killed anyone. I could never survive one year in prison let alone a life sentence without parole. So I honestly can say I feel your pain. Mike

Hey Joe, I know that you have been waiting for your Ares 150 F5 R35... and YES the new line of R30 super fast Anastigmatic Comet Hunters is now officialy named ARES (hope you like it) and I have a semi good news for you. The lenses are now being produced after months of fine tuning this damn design which did not work exactly well in F/4,7 but we were all happy after we redesigned it completely into an R35 version with yet better (and more expensive) short flint glass. Another good news.. the OTAs are NOW in production, counter cells being engraved with text ARES WFT 150-5 R30 as we speak. They go to the powder coating plant next Friday on April 20. 2012, due back the following Friday, assemble between 5.1. and 3.1. and shipped with other 33 scopes to USA by end of that very same week. Meaning approx, three weeks from now your scope will be on the way from Europe to USA and lenses should follow about two weeks later. Mike will test them, certify them, we will ad the lab test report which we do on EVERY single lens, regardless of aperture size or price.. and your scope will be on the way to you.. like it??? I sure hope so buddy... cause I can feel your pain too.. loud and clear! I was is same kind of pain until I could "afford" to keep one of the Asteria AT 127-12 R30 OTAs for myself.. and myself only... now Im gonna save up my pennies for a nice 180mm F6 CaF2 Fluorite super APO astrograph.. due to be produced (finally after two years of trials and lots of money wasted) by end of this year, possibly sooner.... We have designed a killer triplet combining super ED glass and CaF2 pure Fluorite... ane even at F6 it performs mirracles (at least on the Zemax screen). We also designed a program specialy made to automatically calculate the best field flattener/reducer for our Asteria and Ares lines of scopes as well as new and older models of Phantom Fluorite APO triplets. So we are able to design a perfectly working field flattener in matter of 5-8 hours (most of this time is computer crunching numbers) and we know that it is the very best and perfectly matching flattener for the objective lens specified... so guess what.. during next couple of years we will be introducing a line of 2" and 2,5" (possibly 3") field flatteners for our scopes and other scopes on the market... The Raycorr is now suffering yet another setback.. the glass we need is available only in lesser quality or not at all so we will have to wait (who knows for how long) until the glass manufacturers incl. Corning, CDGM, Ohara etc.. are going to do a production run on this glass. In the mean time we may try with another glass combination but we have design for the Raycorr APS3 already done and making a completely new one at this point is a semi nonsense.. the glass will become available sooner or later.. so lets all keep fingers crossed. Well, I shared some of the news... oh, Joe.. if you want to change your mind and go for the 180 F8 instread of the 150 F5, not its time to do the switch.. BUT to finish the 180 F8 will take substantially longer compared to your 150 F5.. well, just something to throw you off a little... regards to all, Ales ISTAR Optical

Dang it now I don't get a Raycorr. I don't care what it is I always seem to come up on the short end of the stick! Another reason I don't gamble. All of the "lotteries" I win don't pay anything!! My peanut buttered bread always falls face down on the floor and that is a 50-50 chance......you'd think! Oh well at least my CA in my R30 is better than in anyone elses' huge doublet. Mike

Hi Joe, I'm sorry it's been a while since I posted. I've had some health issues and have been building a few small scopes, which I am just finishing after months of hold ups. I'm looking forward to building another Istar lens/cell but can't decide which way to go. The new R30 lens system looks very interesting,it's just the wait time that puts me off a little. Not good news on the Raycorr either. I was really looking forward to trying one of these with the standard achromat but it not going to happen. I would have thought a Raycorr for a standard achromat (many excellent lenses have been sold) would sell better than a Raycorr for a lens that is not in use yet. Perhaps it's just me. I would have liked to have built a 6" f/15 with a Raycorr Cheer up Joe,not much longer to wait now. Kind Regards and Clear Skies. Glen.

Hi Ales.... Are you able to let us know exactly what are the types and qty of these 33 scopes that will be arriving USA by end of this month... And what are those that is ex-stock for order, beside those that are pre-ordered , like Joe's 150 F5 R35.... REgards James Ling

Hello again dear James, we have many scopes in stock as we speak since we made two large shipments of scopes during past two months. Total over 30 scopes has been shippped to Florida, many sold to our new dealers namely OPT in California, Canadian Telescopes and Khan Scope Centre in Canada and we are preparing batch of min. 4 OTAs for ROBTICS, our newly acquired dealer in Holland servicing not only this country but also Danmark, Belgium, Germany and France. They are the exclusive distributor of Takahashi for the entire European market and they were extremely pleased with performance of our Fluorite CaF2 APO Phantom and R30 Anastigmatic doublet in Asteria line of scopes. But we still have some OTAs left in our Florida stock, contact Mike Harden for details. It may be a really good idea if he could post the current stock list on this web site, what do you think James (and others)?
We are preparing these scopes at the moment, I dont remember exact quantities as Im writing these sentenses at the car service....the quantities are really a guesstimate...
Perseus AT 127-8 2x Perseus AT 150-8 3x Perseus AT 150-10 2x Perseus AT 150-12 3x Perseus AT 150-15 2x Perseus AT 204-9 2x
Phantom CFT 152-8 2x
Phoenix WFT 127-5 designed but not sure if produced now... Phoenix WFT 150-5 3x Phoenix WFT 204-6 2x
Asteria AT 127-12 4x
Ares WFT 127-5 3x (not sure if this can be finished on time) Ares WFT 150-5 3x
Forfax LTT 140-12 2x (we may have to distontinue all Forfax OTAs due to a HUGE price increase of the special LaF glass). On other hand we may start producing more top end Fluorite Super APO triplets. They are not cheap but best on the market today, no question about it.
More info can be obtained from Mike as he received list of scopes prepared in our European production and he has list of currently available scopes in stock. Must run, talk to you soon, cheers, Ales

Ales. With all these set backs on the Raycorr (the design of which I cannot even begin to fathom, but whoever made the Chromacorr must have had access to glass) I wonder whether your designers have started with readily available glasses and tried to see how close they can get to the performance of what Raycorr promises with these exotic glasses. I know that sounds like settling for less, but there must be something clever about this Raycorr that the brilliant optical designers of the 1900's didn't stumble upon, and I wonder whether it was just the availability of exotic glasses or the design concept itself. Not fishing here just trying to push you to a little lateral thinking. Best Wishes Tony.
