I am interested in a 150mm F/11 R30 Lens any chance we will see any. Also I think 100mm F/11 or F/12 or F10 R30 for those wanting a 100mm glass. Looks like the 127 mm F/12 R30 is there already.

I think Ales is on a trip to the US, and away from his computer, and Mike mentioned the Winter Star Party, so he's probably busy doing that. I believe it was stated at one point that all the classical achros would eventually be produced in an R30 version. I'm sure the ISTAR boy's can give some details when they get back to their 'puters. Hope this helps in the meantime.

Hi Mr. Kelly, any F/11 R30 Anastigmatic doublet will perform on same level as common glass doublet in F/15. Actually talk to Mr. Mike Carman who recently purchased the huge 250 F/11 R30 from us (a custom build lens from ground up). He compared his new R30 to his older F15 and he was actually surprized to find out that his F/11 R30 slightly outperformed his older F/14,5 (I believe it was). Also ther are plenty of 127 F/12 amongst people now, some should come forward and do the direct comparison. but out previous lab tests and visual tests confirmed all this and we can say without any hesstiation that our F/11 will perform as F/14,5 and our F/12 as classic F/15,6. Actually some of these newer designs have a greater reduction than 30 percent, in erality we achieved R35 on our 150 F5 or 250 F11, but the original F30 seem to work better with our upcoming Raycorr so we have some models in R30 and some in R35 but ALL under one name and that is R30. I hope it makes sense. Im in US now, was ill for first 10 days so I could not even communicate or work, today I feel a bit better and I back on my travel plans. Very hard for me to get on line, I should be able to get back on line again in two or three days, hope this info helps. By the way, we have two more models in production, namely 127 F8 R30 and 180 F8 R30. The 150 F10 has been designed and will be submitted for production next month. first finished units will be available in 3 months or so. Anyone can place a pre-order as soon as we have the retail prices together, that should take another 2 weeks. But we can put your name on the waiting list, just contact us under mike.harden@istar-optical.com with copy to me ales@istar-optical.com Be well everyone, talk to you soon, best regards, Ales

Joe and everyone, not sure if Ive already mentioned this on Istar Scope Club, but the prices of these newly designed and produced units should be as follow
127 F8 R30 462,00 USD 150 F8 R30 937,00 USD 180 F8 R30 1270,00 USD
I checked our records, we do not have 150 F10 designed rather we are going to produce the 150 F8 R30 first THAN later this summer we will ad 150 F10 as well as 100 F10 and 180 F11. Anyone with need for a custom designed and build R30 lens contact us via our web site istar-optical.com we can design and build pretty much any size and FL R30 or F35 lens from 80mm all the way to 300+ mm of clear aperture. Best regards, Ales

Mr. Kelly,
if you are serious about your new 150 F10 you can place an order and we will design and produce this lens before any other lens currently scheduled. All of these new R30 lenses are becoming very popular (even though this idea has been around since Zeiss introduced their famous Halb Apochromat) but we strongly felst that there is a need for a higher standard in Classic Achromatic lenses and therefore we designed this R30 line of Anastigmatic lenses using a variety of more expensive but still fairly common glyss types incl. heavy / short flints, higher quality crowns, etc.. Price of this new doublet will be same as other 150mm clear aperture doublets. You and all of the other guys should act fast since prices of optical glasses are sky rocketing, many glass types are taken out of production and we are not sure for how long we may be able to hold these prices. I hope for a long time.. but the glass blank manufacturers may think otherwise.. Our profit margins are set very low so any incerase of raw materials will ultimately result in increase of our own retail and wholesale prices. Bare with us..!!! cheers, Ales

Hello, yes, the prices I mentioned are for lens in cell only. The 180 F11 can be deesigned and produced for same price as the 180 F8. If anyone is interested, we will design and produce after we receive the initial payment. Design will take about 30 days including the production error optimizing, than another 3 months for the actual first unit production. Total estimated time 4 months. Best regards, Ales

I'm interested in a 180 F11 R30. How soon can I get one? What will the price be for a complete OTA?

The price for an complete OTA excluding rings would be approx 2650 US dollars. That is OTA with our focuser and Losmandy D style mount. This is a rough estimate only, we will know the exact price once we poduce first unit. So the waiting time for a complete OTA would be in around 5-6 months max. But we still require a pre-payment for such semi custom job. We would design the OTA eventually, but if you want your Asteria AT 180-11 R30 ASAP we will put some other projects aside and start on this scope right away. Let us know, best regards, Ales

size and weight guesses?

The length should be in around 1600mm excluding focuser, hard to guess the weight, my estimate at around 19 kilos excluding focuser. We have rings for this size scope produced already incl. Vixen style dovetails. best regards, Ales
