James, I love that giant scope. I can see why it attracts so much attention where ever you set up. A G11 is no small mount but the 8" makes it look like a toy. Just for fun, you should have someone take your picture with the scope pointing to the zenith and you laying on the ground looking into the eyepiece

Hi Mike. I have no regret getting this scope, when Ales recommended to me last year , after I wrote an email to Istar-Optical. Even my astronomy friends are also surprised, that since I already have big scopes like C14 and 10" Tak Mewlon, why go for the big refractor. Although this 8" doublet refractor may not perform better in planetary views than the 6" triplet APO, but definitely is a good DSO performer. Is the length of the OTA that is difficult for transportation, which I have a plan to do so , once I bring it back to my own country for a simple modification, to split the tube. After which I can use it for side walk astronomy , in my country , which is a city of building here and there..... REgards James ling Attachments:

James, I'm looking forward to seeing the final product. I wish Istar could have done the mod as I think others might be interested. Post some pictures when you are finished.

Hi Mike.
Actually Istar can do the split version, which you know both Ales and myself is discussing over this subject through our emails.
I am now still considering the 160 F12 triplet that Ales has mentioned to me, and I want it to be modified with the split at the middle of the OTA by Istar, as it will save me time to ship it to another supplier to do the modification, and then ship it back.
Unfortunately Istar is going to take quite a while for this split modification , which I think is more than a month, and I may not want to wait ......
Sometimes is difficult to put hobby and work together at the same time, especially I am working oversea, not in my own country.....
Regards
