Looks like I am getting a D&G 5" f12 to go along with my 150 f15 Istar. It's used but looks to be in great condition. I am pretty happy having the old school standard and the new school standard both at my disposal!

Congratulations, that sounds like it will be a fine scope and a lot more compact than the 6 inch. I am the other way around with a 5 inch f12 Istar and a D & G 6 inch f15 Andy

How does the D&G measure up to the ISTAR (or vice-versa) image quality wise?

Andy, that scope is really grabbing some attention over on CN. I have been watching the post. The publicity for Istar is great! Thanks a lot Buddy! 3420 views and 136 replies.

The D & G arrived; is quite the little performer for being an old scope.
I found that it gave a similar de-focused star image as the ISTAR. In focus was perfect but out focus gave a wavy weird image. I bought a chesire and found that the D&G was slightly out of collimation, so I may need to tweak the ISTAR a tad as well.
It's pretty cool having both scopes.
I'll post photos once I get the D&G properly mounted and set-up next to is bigger brother ISTAR. I found an old Astro-Physics 706 mount for the former and it should be here n a couple weeks.

First thing I do with every scope I get, which is quite a few these days, is put the Cheshire in and check out the collimation. Fortunately, they are rarely out. But, it gives me the foundation I need for the star test. I'm anxious to know if your Istar is out as well. Looking forward to your pictures. According to Ales I'll be putting the Cheshire in my new Fluorite next week. I just hope my tears of joy don't short out my laptop. I have three coming. One is mine, one goes to the UK and one is up for grabs. Who wants it? Mike

The ISTAR was spot on collimation wise. Saturn last night with the Televue Nagler 9mm Type 1 was awesome. I (well my 6-year daughter and I) was going back and forth between it and the D&G with a Celestron 26mm silver top, nice tight views in the former and crisp wide field in the latter.
