My neighbor in the fabrication industry made this pier for my scope, cost 100.00. It is solid as a rock. Please never mind the tarp on my obs roof, that's simply temporary. Any critiques? Last photo show the scaffold I use to get the scope up onto the mount and to sit on to view. The kids love it and it's safer than a ladder. Attachments:

I agree. Looks good and certainly sturdy. I was going to ask you to bring it over to my house so I could look through it but I don't think it will fit in your car

That is a nice looking pier, and especially suited to the long FL scope. You won't need to be laying on the ground!
If I may offer a suggestion; shorten the bolts between the pier and the mount. Get the two as close together as possible while still having things level. Right now, I can see there will be movement in these. It's a common thing I see with a lot of people's piers.
The other alternative is to use much larger bolts (think 1" diam.), and/or use a lot of them (ie. a ring of 8 or more of them).
There really isn't a need for much space, just enough to level things.
Keep us posted as you get things located into the observatory!
Clear skies, -Gord

Thanks for the suggestion! I knew I had too much length to the bolts. I am going to reduce that distance right quick.
In terms of another weakness I was worried about the top pier plate being too thin but I think it is rigid enough for the task.
In terms of overall stability, I was able to squeeze about an hour in last night with the new pier and it performed without a problem. I was tapping on the pier while viewing and saw no vibration.
