Im honored to post first info under this category. We are currently preparing a new shipemtn of 14 scopes, in this batch we have our first Asteria AT 150-8 R30. Mike Harden has three of these Anastigmatic lenses in stock so he will assemble the OTAs as soon as he receives this new shipment and he will inform you about the actual star test results. This F8 should performa as standard F/10,4 achromat so the CA will be a fairly well controlled. Also this 150 F8 R30 lens is optimized to work together with the upcoming Raycorr. Im leaving my European office in only a few hours, must pack up and head for the airport. I wont be able to reply to any emails during the upcoming 7 weeks, bare with me. I will be on line ocassionally so and |I will do my best to participate here in iISC. Cheers, Ales

A 150-8 R30 sounds like the ideal wide field telescope, very manageable size, good aperture and suitable correction. It would be my choice, If I were not holding out for a 204-8 R35, which is definitely larger, but not unmanageable.

I agree totally. This is why we picked the F8 to be most used and most produced R30 lens F-ratio. We started with 127mm, 150mm and 180mm. We will soon ad 200 or 204mm (full 8") also in F8. So hang in there. The Phoenix WFT 204 F6 is still a very managable scope and the F8 will be only a bit longer and about 2lb heavier. We may produce this scope in our new Truss Style Construction style so we will be able to minimize the overall size and weight. Stay in touch, the first truss style scopes are now in production, will be introduced by end of this year under model name Perseus TCR 150-12 and if we are happy with its performance we will continue with all 204mm scopes and may even produce the 220mm and 250mm scopes in years to come. Most of these in R30 and R35 configuration which is optimized to work with our upcoming Raycorr line of correctors. Best regards, Ales

Hello dear Craig, if you are serious about this scope, we can calculate the price for you and if you pay half down and half before shipment we can design and produce such scope in 4-5 month time including the lens design time. So think about it and let me know. Im traveling outisde Europe, this is the first time I was able to get on line for a while. Im doing my best to stay in touch with you guys. cheers, Ales

Thanks mike,
money is tight right now, I am hoping that will change shortly, It seems when you get older, when an employer runs into problems, your usually the highest paid and the first to go.
I was hoping a 8" f/8, f/9 R35 would garner more interest. I put a lot of thought and experience into the final selection. Maybe it just takes time and lot of thought, as it did with me.
The 8" is top of my list, I will start saving as soon as can.
Thanks, Craig

Maybe Istar can start offering low cost loans that are interest free in the first year. Boy what a money maker that would be. Ales says to himself why didn't I think of that? Yeah right on. I better shut up or Ales ain't gonna' take my money from me in the future....period! Mike

No thanks Mike I'll stick with cash.
On a different subject, I was curious about the mount you have your 10" R30 on. I have scrounged a lot of material over the years, for a"dream mount" and was planning to use large pillow block bearings as you did. Question; do you have a way to fine adjust your polar alignment? As your construction looks to be simplier than the ones I have come up with.
You never know, after I construct my mount, to handle 60 lb. which will probably hold half a ton, I might just decide to go 10" !!!
If you like we could continue this on a "mount" page-----Craig

I read your post and was wondering what type of mount you made and its specifications. I was thinking (for my own) of 2" bearings and a 3' polar axis and a 2' dec axis. Do you have any suggestions and any photos would be great. Thanks, JohnDaniel
