I want to use the 150 f15 almost exclusively for planets since I have my cpc 1100 for deep sky. So I do not need go to or tracking. Also, I will travel to my dark site with this. What tripod/pier and mount should I be looking at, please bear in mind that I am not made of money.

I'm interested in this as well, my neads are similar, don't need goto or even tracking. Just a recommendation for a simple but solid mount for visual use for a six inch f15. Best Regards Carl

You boys really should consider Optic- Craft Machine's mounts. I personally have a beefed up copy of their Model 7. However I'd reccomend any from Model 3 upward. This definitely will be last mount you'll ever need to buy. Pillow block mountings have no jiggle, wiggle or slop. If painted nicely they don't really look half bad. Since when did a professional observatory refractor's mount ever look like a purchase from Mounts R Us?? ;D ;DMike Attachments:

I have to agree...Optic Craft is the surest way to go. It was my vendor of choice before my Parsec-12 came along, and then the AP1200 QMD, but I'd researched OC specs closely.

If anyone is interested in Alt/AZ, I used a G11 tripod and a Giro 3 for the 6" f/10 I built. It's action was excellent with a good damping time. F/15 is certainly longer though.
Regards. Glen.

I went with the optic-craft Model 2 (Terry convinced me that Model 2 was more than enough for the f15) with some nice additions. He is also building me a custom tripod for the mount so I will have a Istar scope riding on a pure Optic-Craft system. Started building my obersvatory for this last week, down to the roof so when the scope and mount arrive, they will have a new home waiting.
