My 5 inch f12 R30 lens in cell arrived about 3 weeks ago. Unfortunately I was away and only got home yesterday. The lens looks great. It was very well packed and I am looking forward to making a new telescope. It feels heavy though I haven't been able to weigh it. Andy Jackson Attachments:

Pictures are great Andy. I never get tired of looking at those cool objectives. Can't wait to see the final product. Please keep us up to date on the progress. I sure won't mind a few more pictures along the way

Today I received the D&G 5"f15 lens that I ordered in Septemeber 2009. Here is pic next to the Istar lens. The D&G comes with a countercell and is coated with magnesium fluoride only as opposed to multicoated. Andy Attachments:

Looks like you have your hands full! Gonna make the same stile tube for the D&G?
I'm not sure about the single coatings. The images are so much crisper in my single coating Cartons. I don't know if it's due to the coatings or focal length, but comparing them to modern multicoated lenses in my shorter scopes, I get the feeling that a single coating was plenty good enough.

Hi Joe
I do intend to make a plywood tube for the D&G. The coatings are nice either way. Simple coatings are good enough. They are important in the smaller sizes to improve light transmission, less important in larger sizes.
Hi Mike
Yes I am glad to see it at last. I bought the Istar lens when my patience for D&G waivered a little. I have no regrets getting both lenses though. It will be fun and interesting to compare them and I wanted to try something from Istar sooner or later.
