Hey All, Just got the lens last night. Haven't had any time and don't have a lot for many details right now. Initial impression is that this thing is huge (thick) and heavy! Shipping insert was really good and protects the lens very well. Was impressed with that last time as well. Clear skies, -Gord Attachments:

Oh, one more thing, some quick notes I took on dimensions:
~11 lbs (based on shipping weight)
Depth details: 15mm inside/back lens depth ~9.5mm thick ring ~54mm front depth/protrusion
Diameter details: 160mm clear aperature 176mm outer cell (small diameter) 201mm outer cell diameter (ring)
All sizes are approx. based on the quick measure with the ruler.
Thanks, -Gord

Gord.....I hope you don't drop that lens. So I suggest you wrap it up and send it to me. ;D I'll make sure nothing will happen to it. ???By the way how much was the shipping for that heavy sucker? Wish I could afford something like that. Mike

I am really curious about planetary performances of your new optics. I still wait for the 144 mm version but... as you test the scope write us back your impression.

Hi Gord.....
Nice to see the lens cell from this 160 F12 LaF Sorry that I can only reply this forum after 12 hrs of your post, as I am staying the other part of the globe......
looking at the lens cell dimension, now I can understand why my 8" is becoming 10" in the outer diameter......
Now just wait to see this lens cell transform into an OTA.......
Regards

Hey everyone, Sorry for not responding. Very busy with work and family duties. We're going to get one chance this weekend, but unfortunately it's going to be overnight tonight. I'm going to try to carve myself away for a little bit to mount up the lens and try it. I have the back-end of the rail somewhat ready, but not the front. I did get a template cut out for it, so it's a start. Saturn sets at like 4am, but I have to get any cutting I need done finished before dark. Here's hoping for at least a quick look! Mike (Cee), I'll let you know after I look through it if you can have it! Shipping BTW was around $120. Not bad, but I'm not so impressed with the "2 day" service taking 5 to get here. Oh well. Did I mention this thing is heavy? Clear skies, -Gord

Yes Gord, I'm dying to get your impressions especially on Saturn. Ales said my scope should ship in two weeks. They are working on it right now. I noticed you had the lens on a white surface. What color is the coating on the lens.

Hey everyone,
Well, not looking good for tonight. At least not right now. Should be seeing some sort of clearing by now, but it's gotten worse over the evening if anything.
I'm not completely ready yet either. Only managed to break away from my other duties for an hour tonight, but did make good progress. I have the bracket to hold the lens partly assembled. Not a lot left on that. The rest of the setup is ready to go save for doing the precise alignment once the lens is mounted.
Given the weather, I'm not waiting up or going to go any farther with the assembly tonight. I'm hoping the forecast is still correct, but just delayed by a few hours. They are calling for a nice day tomorrow, but clouding over again before tomorrow night. If that was shifted out by a few hours, I'd be set with getting everything ready and then some observing.
Mike, the coating on the lens is green. I was a little surprised by it actually. The coating isn't nearly as obvious as on my achro. It just looks very clear and color is only visible from certain angles.
Ales is very busy at the moment it seems. He hasn't had much time to respond to emails. He was going to send some of the design layouts for these scopes as a reference to see how they were doing it. I have my own ideas, but it would be interesting to compare.
Clear skies, -Gord

Guess there's just no escaping the curse. I was really hoping that a lens on a stick didn't count! ;D
