PS: The second scope is an Istar 150mm R-30 F-10. Ive had the lens for a while and figured I might as well make the tube at the same time. Also there is a tube previously made for a D&G 6 inch F-12 ready and wainting for the last D&G lens being made (5 years wait so far, every 6 months or so I get a note saying " it is almost ready"

Outstanding build! I’m looking forward to the first light report and first images of deep space objects. Something these lenses really do well.

Hello Dan, wonderful to finally see some photos. If I might say, solid and a very professional job. You are progressing quickly too. Do you sleep in the workshop for a quick morning start?
I think this will really do justice to the iStar APO, lovely!
cheers ... Graham.P

When you build something the first rendition it can certainly be improved upon. The end bells could be lighter if I wanted to take the time to turn them down a bit and some of the thickness inside the back end could be machined out. But I was once told that the enemy of good was better. In other words if you keep poking at it you will break it. I probably could have made the front transition adapter out of just the thick wall single piece of the scuba cylinder and a smaller diameter lens cell plate, but the second scope 150mm lens cell is a bit different (and requires no holder plate) it mates directly to a 180mm 3 bolt diameter. The 140mm cell could do with a 175mm bolt pattern and still reach the columation adjusters. Probably 3 to 5 lbs could have beem taken out. But it is coming along "good enough " the details and finishing touches/ cosmetics will take quite a bit of time. I hope to do some testing for final tube length and fitment before baffle placement. it will have to come apart a few more times before the final assembly.

onward with baffles next and finish up the dew shield. fitment and painting plus final cut to length on the tube after testing.. maybe make a end cover for the cell. a few more weeks as I will be away between the 7th and 14th. This is going to be one beautiful instrument!

Still working on the scope project. Had to go back to work from May to Thanksgiving (out of USA). biggest parts delay is the focuser. Was going to use a "True" 3 inch Feather touch, but long wait black log. Considering the 3.7 inch APM like one I have on the 152ED. still hope to test in January 22. --Dan--
