Hello dear fellow amateur astronomers,
Some 4 years ago iStar Optical designed a truly revolutionary 180mm F/6 astrograph. The design achieves true apochromatic 3-color crossing without the use of expensive ED glass like FPL-53 or FPL-51. All this in a subcompact design with a perfect balance/weight distribution. The problem with the older version was a slight violet halo as well as overall mass/weight of the glass.
Couple years later I talked to Mike Jones (ex Lockheed Martin optical designer), I showed him our design and asked him for help. Some weeks later Mike presented me with a greatly improved version of our original idea. Weight reduced to nearly half and improved image quality up to 45x45mm sensor size!
It was always my dream to design and produce a truly unique apochromat in this aperture class capable of good quality images. Running at very fast F6, this system offers a clear advantage over any other 7" APO on the market.
The core of the system is a widely air-spaced quadruplet with built-in 4" triplet corrector/field flattener. Only fairly common and reasonably inexpensive glass types are being used resulting in projected retail price being only in $6,900 range.
For this particular astrograph, I designed a special type of lens cell capable of increasing lens assembly time and virtually eliminating "pinched lens" problems in transport or rough handling.

Thank you,
