If it performs to R35 specification then it should behave like an f/11. A considerable improvement on the usual "kaleidoscopic" f/8. Though the f/8s can still perform well in good seeing. Hopefully the optical surfacing quality should also be better than the original lens. What are you planning to do? Make a new counter-cell for the iStar objective cell?

What a superb finish! It shouldn't be long now if you can get clear skies. I have only had a couple of brief views of the very low Moon since I put mine together. Constant overcast, cloud or thick haze for months. I hope you have more luck.

Hi Mike
It's looking very smart and purposeful.
Do keep us informed on how the iStar lens performs.

Last night had the first light with the scope and it was by full moon.but how the optics impressed me already, i am very pleased. This let the original meade optics far beyond him and even my expectations. The moon was like a photo such sharp no purple faint to see but I have to say that I use a baader apo filter. Next Time I'm going to unscrew it so i could compare this. Stars are nice pinpoint and again for example the double cluster by full moon was already with a huge woow factor. I started to believe why they sometimes speak about apo-like quality and so my full respect for istar and their optics is only growing. Thank you ales for making such fine optics,so now my scope could starts his second life.

Hi Mike Congratulations! That all sounds very positive. Enjoy your superb telescope and do keep posting. I'm sure a lot of owners of 6" f/8 telescopes will be interested in hearing your comparisons. Merry Christmas! Chris

Great first light report Mike! Happy customers enjoying high quality optics keep me motivated for further work. I discontinued production of this specific lens few weeks ago, but I decided to put this 150 F8 R35 SLIM Anastigmatic doublet back into our on-line store. Typical production of these doublets is 3-4 months and we must produce minimum of 5 units to make this lens reasonably priced. So if any of you is interested, please let me know after I get back to USA by first week of January. Write me ales@istar-optical.com or call me (619)-452-9820 Right now Im in Europe and Im unable to reply to phone calls.
Merry Christmas to everyone!!
Ales

In the past time the weather wasn't super so i fixed a little problem. when i used my 5mm ocular i just get in focus and then the focusser was almost at the startingpoint. So barlowing was a problem. Now recently i shortened the tube by one inch. Normally with this action the problem should be solved. Now i'm waiting for some better weather to check it up. I post more info about this in the future.

Excellent build Mike! I have been so impressed by my Istar 150/750 lens. I really cannot believe how well the ca is controlled in such a fast lens. Your f/8 should be a really good performer.
