H All... I have seen Jupiter GRS numerous occasions through my C14, Mewlon 250, APM 152 ED APO and ISTAR.... But last night is completely different..... The GRS is so clear and distinct in contrast ....as it clearly separates the 2 cloud bands with a break.... And the RED colour of GRS is very distinct...as the public also understand and pickup this feature through the ep at 225x.. As the visual view is so much sharper , my astro friend, Gary took out his SONY handheld camera and shot a short video clip and download to UTUBE....

Hi All... Although last weekend weather is super cloudy .... I still setup my 8" F8.8 Istar for the Jupiter sidewalk or outreach activity for the public to view... And I waited till midnight and most of our group starts to pack up and leave the park, while only 3 of us left behind to try our luck.... And surprisingly after midnight, around 12.30am, the super thick clouds above the sky starts to break up.... and Jupiter is seen almost upright in the sky.....as per following photo... Regards James

Hi All... Although this time, I don't have the crowd of people like the previous weekend queuing behind my scope to view Jupiter and its moons...(see below photo from previous weekend) But this time round I even have the chance to wait until around 1am, when Mars clears the low clouds and appears in its red glory and is blazing bright even at 450X....(see below photo) Regards James

Hi All... Last weekend by the time I dismantled my scope , is already past 2am in the morning... And back home, already past 3am.... So at least I am not disappointed with the night....with nice view from Jupiter.......almost like the previous weekend, but this time round although the GRS around 1am is very sharp and detail like the previous week, but I could not pick up the orange colour so distinct like the previous weekend? ? And as for today, I specially look leave to rush back from oversea assignment and to prepare for both tonight Jupiter opposition and tomorrow morning solar Eclipse at one of our local university, which is an organized major event of the year.....with an estimated 1000 participants..... I hope the weather for both tonight and tomorrow morning will be good without heavy clouds or rains, and I am able to come back with more reports of this 8" F8.8. Istar deployment for this major event... Regards and thank you .... James Ling

Hi James
That is a lot of people! And all wearing shorts and T-shirts as if it were midday and midsummer. Had the eclipse occurred here we would all have been huddled together in down-filled jackets at -3C, 25F in a hard, white frost. It's good to see so much interest to reward you for your efforts in setting up your instruments. BTW: The live views of Jupiter were amazing. Keep up the good work!

Hi All.... The following are the details reports for the 8th March night Jupiter opposition and 9th March morning Solar Eclipse major event held at one of the local NUS University............................. I took annual leave for this event and started the preparation by loading up my 8" ISTAR and the accessories into my car, under a super cloudy and heavy downpour for the whole day.... As this is a specially organized event, I still need to get to the event venue at 6.30 pm for the setup... Surprisingly, the rain stopped at 6pm and the sky starts to clear up, when I reached the University event venue ... The following are the photos taken for the night event whereby the first half of the night is spent on viewing Jupiter , and you can see large crowds gathered in the football field to see through our telescopes' eye piece, Jupiter and its 4 moons...

Hi All... Although after midnight, the weather turns bad again, but from midnight till early morning this period of time, occasionally we still can see Mars, Saturn and Jupiter..... And those who stay behind have all the whole night to use their hand phone to take photos of Jupiter and Saturn through the Istar which at 225X showing clear and crisp view.....without any image breakdown.... When the time is near to 6am, I started to setup the ISTAR for the Solar Eclipse event, by putting up a table and TV display, and mount a 70mm refractor , with solar filter and my DSLR for allowing the public to see the LIVE event while waiting for their turn to view through our telescope... And by the time the sky started to brighten up , I waited patiently for the Sun to appear..... And when the time has passed 7.22 am, which is the start of the Solar eclipse, the Sun is still blocked.....and everyone in the field are very anxious.....{ In fact the whole field , you can see thousands of people with the solar viewer, are all focusing at the same direction....)
