Hi All,
I have just bought an Istar Perseus AT 150 F10 which should arrive in the next couple of days. Although I have been interested in astronomy since childhood, I have only started to pursue it more seriously in the last few years. I have owned a couple of SCT's and small refractors but the Istar will be a new experience! I live at Red Hill about an hour's drive from Melbourne, Victoria. Skies are fairly dark but I suspect we are too close to the sea for really good seeing. I plan to mount the Istar on a pier-mounted EQ6 and build an observatory around it a bit later.
Cheers,
MikeA

Hi Mike ...a good choice of scope there, and another Aussie to go with Brian and meā¦think everyone else has quit ISC.
I'm in Melbourne so would love to get my scope ATM 150 f12 on the Gaunt mount down your way sometime and have a side by side compare. Autumn is the best time for observing down here too. I had mine on an NEQ6 until I re-built the old Gaunt. Nothing better than a long FL refractor and the night sky!
Look forward to some pics.
Cheers
Matt

Hi Mike and welcome to the iStar club , you wont be disappointed with the new scope if it performs as good as mine or Matt's , awesome bit of glass , just be ready for a shock when you first lay eyes on the Perseus , HUGE ! scope but the EQ6 will carry it ok for visual and that's where it will shine .
One more thing have a look at getting a pier extention for your mount so the eyepiece is higher when viewing near the zenith . Looking forward to seeing the whole thing set up .
Brian.
