The French love their solar scopes. Yet another fine example of a solar telescope built in France this time by Philippe Tosi. He is currently imaging in white light but is in the process of converting to H alpha. We look forward to all future images. Nice job Phil! Also the French apparently love their gardens as these pictures have the same beautiful backdrop as JP's telescope pictures. I'm posting a couple of pictures here but for the full story go to "Solar Chat" with this link: Solar Chat LinkMike

I apologize for posting such a large image but I didn't want to take anything away from it.

JP, I wouldn't mind being your neighbor The only thing I would really miss is the gulf and the warm winters. You guys sure know how to build your telescopes. We're seriously thinking about building a 150-10 H alpha scope. Using an Istar tube and lens of course, along with a few Baader and Coronado pieces. Mike

I'd like to live near JP too! Look at those toys! and the shed…. if I can call it that….I thought my 3 blocks of concrete in the grass at the back of my place was enough. Think I need to do better. Very nice photo's of the Sun, not to mention the scope.

Oh my goodness JP! You should not give an invitation to a place like that if your not serious. Beautiful pictures. France, Paris and Pic du Midi is my and my wife's dream trip. Well, the Pic du Midi is mine. Hopefully someday soon.

First H alpha image from the Philippe Tosi built 204mm F9 H alpha scope. He says the image is bad and seeing was really bad. I think if this is bad, then we have some fabulous images ahead of us. Judge for yourself:

Sorry for the large file size but I already had to reduce it to be practical. I hate to take away from the detail. Philippe is happier with these

Congrats to Philippe Tosi for getting this image on Spaceweather.comQuote from Spaceweather.com - Dr. Tony Phillips:"BEAR CLAW SUNSPOT: Imagine a bear claw with toes the size of Earth. Yesterday, Philippe Tosi of Nîmes, France, looked through the eyepiece of his solar telescope and saw exactly that."
