Dear Viktor, can you please share more info and photos of the ATM scope with iStar lens which won the first place at the Mt. Kobau Star Party 2014? Me and many other are impatiently waiting! Thank you in advance, best regards, Ales Ales, Thank you for asking, this is the same scope in thread "Meade a 6" in Istar ATM section of this website. It is an 6" f8 R30 Istar optics hidden behind the dew shield. Please, see attached photo here below taken at home and at the star party. Please don't be surprised that modern technology mixed with stone age science at Mount Kobau, as the counterweights were left behind at home A few people were curious about the telescope and liked to see through it! Me too, and found some awesome faint galaxies and globulars. I spotted there fainter than 13th mag. galaxies with the 6" refractor! Mount Kobau is about 10 miles away from Osoyoos, Canada, just across the US bordertown, Oroville, Washington. Next year star party is on from August 8 - 16, as announced at www.mksp.ca. I am already planning to introduce the new 9" Istar achro! Viktor

Jason, the Synta flange will not work. I'm trying to think what focuser is on the 204 TCR. It might be a 2.5" Moonlite. I will check and get back to you but we can put pretty much whatever you want on it.

I just received a final word from our master optician Zdenek. This new doublet is now officially called 150 F/5 R50 SLIM. It is a cross over between a standard achromat and a Semi APO. Zdenek decided that this lens is not a full blooded Semi APO but at R50, it exhibits the strongest reduction of chromatic aberration from all Rx style doublets we produced so far. We will try to redesign our F8 and F12 models based on this formula and if all works out well, we will be able to further reduce the amount of chromatic aberration in all longer FL lens models. And if you think that this is all we have to offer... wait for few more months! Some really amazing stuff is now designed, waiting for prototyping and testing. regards, Ales I already own a 150-R35 f/8 (and I love it) but I wouldn't mind upgrading just the objective to a 150-R50 f/8 if it ever becomes available. Do you think you could set up an exchange program for people like me who would love to do an upgrade? Thanks for the great scope Steve

I'll let Ales have the final say but I just don't know what we would do with the used lenses. Also lenses have a small margin and I don't know how we could make it profitable. When you see us release the R50 in the F8 contact me by email and we'll see if we can work something out. Thanks for your patronage

Hello Steve,
if you want to upgrade to a better lens, it would make more sense to simply sell the lens on AM or CN and then buy a new lens of your choice. We might get into re-selling used iStar or other brand gear at some point in the future, but this is something we are not seriously considering at this point of time. Thank you for your understanding, best regards, Ales

I happen to have a matching extruded aluminum tube for the longer focal length and can't help thinking about building an Istar 150 mm f12 R50 refractor. If the f5 performance is so great as described, can you imagine the mind blowing planetary performance in f12? If you will make this kind of lens, I would love to sign up for it, Viktor Zsohar

Hello Viktor, We are producing 150 F12 R35 SLIM at this time. If I make the change towards different style lens, it would be more like R60 or better yet, Visual APO. But at this time all of our design and production resources are completely tied up with development of brand new styles of optical systems. With some luck we should be able to introduce first units out of extensive line of 8 new instruments by early summer of 2015. I can not possibly start working on another project at this moment. The aperture range of these new instruments is planned in 140mm, 160mm, 180mm and 204mm, but success of these new designs depends on many variables and I will not reveal any information until we have some solid data on hand and until few experts test these new optical systems. Thank you for your understanding, best regards, Ales

Dear Ales,
Thank you very much for your reply to my post. I fully understand and agree with you that a future plan should not be revealed before its due time even if one could make choices based on that. I would like to add that the existing 6" f12 R35 lens, that you recommended, is a very appealing one and would be indeed a worth choice; I seriously consider it. From now on I really try my best and patiently wait for future announcements, though. Thank you again, I truly appreciate your kind explanation and truthful words.
Viktor

Ales, I would purchase immediately a 5" F10 R50 (WOW! a shorter 5" at effectively F15), or even an 140mm R50 at F8 0r F9? THX Rich
