HI All.... The following photo will tell you the exact night, which is 1st March 2014, the crowds that gathered behind these two telescopes.... Unfortunately this photo is not being selected for today's newspaper life section .... But most astronomers in Singapore knows about the ISTAR, coz it is the biggest refractor telescope you can find in this region.... REgards James Ling

Hi there Istarers...is that a word? Anyway I love dropping photos of my scope and mount all over CN. Thanks to a very nice thread started by Mike I had lots of chances....so went full steam ahead and did just that, to the enjoyment of more than a few....now for a photo of me and 'that' scope and mount! Cheers for now Matt Hmmm can't add it now....soon I hope, never seen that message on ISC before about photo limits! Try again now it's tomorrow! Nope no good... What is the attachment limit Mike? Wow it's working again!!! Think I will start a thread in the members photos section with a few pics next time I have the thing out. Meanwhile here's me with my 6" f12.

Hi Mike,
How is the photo thing going?
I'm finishing my 1880's mount this week and would like to add the final pics hereā¦but nothin' doing yet. The Tangent Arm is done and looks sensationalā¦but I'm a bit biased!

Hello Mike and Ales
My dream has long been to have a 20 cm refractor and to be able to see through it.
1996 saw a lottery win and I fulfilled some dreams - including the ED APO 7 zollf 9 from Astrophysics with Zeiss accessories. It was great time. A great moment was comet Hyakutake 1997/98. as it must be in life, fate has struck and I became unemployed and forced to sell.
Since I realized my self-made refractor with 5 inch f 18 D & G optics in 2001, I wanted more.
Unfortunately, I only have a balcony to the southwest to northwest
thus, the observation objects are shrunk to planetary objects.
In the year 2017/18, unexpected blessings came from years of work and small inheritance and iron savings.
From D & G Optical heard nothing more, so I transferred my request to Istar and there have ordered a 20 cm f9 optics March 2019 (it seemed a manageable investment).
The restrained to bad image of Istar through various astronomy forums in Germany and the United States developed by hearsay of upper-smart amateur astronomers, their hobby rather
overlaid by optical discussions about test charts.
I have decided to make heads with nails grins
Regards Marc

Hi All....
There is some good news from cloudynights forum under refractor section with regards to Istar's plan to build 8" F6 ED version which I am sure some members here be interested to upgrade to....
I am taking this opportunity to revive members'interest on Istar by encouraging members to post in this Istarscopeclub forum, whether you own or not an Istar scope like me...
Although now is still half a year away from this end year annular eclipse, which is on 26 December 2019, but for me is important, coz I have been waiting for 20 years for this event to take place in my country, Singapore... As such now I will start to make preparation by reviving sidewalk activities in June when the planet Jupiter is back in the night sky..
Hope to put up some posting here again when time permits...
Regards

Hey James, good to hear from you. I agree that it's good that Istar is planning to build an 8" ED lens. Hopefully that will get some more people into buying scopes from them. I have several scopes from Takahashi and iStar, and my favorite scope is still my 8" iStar. I have been too busy lately with starting my own company and moving to a new location to be very active with my scopes, but I plan to eventually have a permanent pier setup for my iStar and Taks. I'll try to get on the Istarscopeclub more often and see if we can generate some more interest. When someone posts a new post, I get an email letting me know, I hope others have the same setup.
Talk soon, Jason

Hi All..
As now only less than two days left, and will be this year 26th December annular solar eclipse in my country, Singapore.
I have been preparing this once in a life time event since early this year, as the next annular eclipse will be another 43 years, to catch it again in my country.
I prepared a TV and car battery, with an DC to AC inverter to use my TV for showing the video output from my WO88ED telescope with my Canon 800D DSLR camera.
My main scope for the public to see this eclipse will either through my APM152ED or the 8" Istar...
The WO88ED will be piggy back on the main scope, with my G11 losmandy mount...
My main concern for this major event, is not the weight of the setup, but because now is heavy raining season, and it has been raining daily for the past one month, and weather forecast is predicting this will only end in early January 2020.
Nevertheless, I just keep my fingers cross... And hopefully good weather be accompanied by a sunny day, for this long waiting event, which I have waited for 20years, and with the last one being ruined by heavy rain at the start of the event, 20years ago.....
I will keep all update on this special event... And hopefully I use the Istar instead of the APM..
REGARDS

Hi All...
Now is two days after 26th December 2019, which is also the most important astronomical annular solar eclipse event, in Singapore, whereby the very last one, which is 20years ago, bring disrupted by a heavy downpour at the start of the event. As I have mentioned earlier, for the past few weeks, Singapore is experiencing heavy downpour, almost daily, which is due to the year end monsoon season... But surprisingly, beginning this week, we are able to have half a day of good weather, and raining in the afternoon... This type of weather is not very good for this coming astronomical event, as the annular eclipse starts at 11.27am and ends at 1518pm, with the max totality at 1324pm... So the rain may come right before totality... Christmas day weather is a sunny and cloudy day, and the weather forecast for boxing day also will be sunny and cloudy for the whole day. So that is going to be a good event for us... As I am joining Singapore sidewalk astronomy group, which the setup is on the actual day, in the morning, an hour or two prior to the start of the annular eclipse, there will be not enough time for me to bring my 8" Istar. Instead I bring along my APM 152 ED APO, as this will cut down both my preparation time and set up time, by at least an hour... Before I continue further on the actual event, let me show you the utube video I download, using photos and video to produce this slide show.. (FROM THE ACTUAL DAY EVENTS)
Regards

Hi All..... As most of us know this month there are two giant planets that will be in opposition, and there will be wealth of details to look for through the view from our telescope eye piece... But due to this Cornonavirus or COVID-19 , public outreach will not be possible , as most countries , like Singapore is restricting the group gathering to a limited number of people , and for my country is limited to 5 for social gathering.. But that will not stop my group from carrying out our social gathering at someone home, although still limit to 5 people. Thanks to my friend roof top whereby I can setup my 8" Istar there for my observation.... This photo attachment shows myself with my Istar setup on his AP900 mount...which is taken many years ago. I would again very much like members in this club to post whatever you can share with all of us, and not being restricted by this COVID-19 that is affecting the whole world.... REgards James Ling
