Go big as you can Viktor. As JP said balance is vital. My 6"f12 weighs 16kg's and without dew shield is 1500mm long or thereabouts. The whole lot rides on an NEQ6 with so far no problems with motors labouring/ grinding away at all. The mount is rated to 20-25kg's depending on where I look for the specs. I use a sliding weight to balance the thing so that with clutches unlocked on Dec and RA I can point it anywhere in the sky and the scope stays still. Matt

Well, 9" f/ 7.7 it is! I could not resist the aperture adventure, as mikecee and boomboom also advised, so I finally placed order for a 228 mm f7.7 Istar objective lens! This lens is as large as I could afford, so no regrets, no compomises of aperture on my side...F ratio is acceptable if the optics is great, and i am sure it will be great. Jp you are right, this refractor might be a little bit oversized for my AP900, but I will give it a try...I just couldn't help, a 9" f7.7 is simply irresistible: dreaming of her until she arrives;)

Wow Viktor, you are going big!
Looking forward to hearing all about the build. Post a picture of the lens when it turns up. Do you have an expected delivery date?

I don't have an exact date yet, but there is a good hope that the lens will arrive maybe in June but most likely in July. Sure, I will share with you about both the build and the performance when the refractor is ready to take on the night sky:)
