This is my new to me Perseus 150 F/12 achromat. The mount in the photos is just a temporary measure so that I can do some initial star testing. My little Vixen ED102SS makes a nice finder !. Encouraging views so far with Pi Aquillae being split quite easily at 225x and CA fringing on the Lunar limb appearing quite minimal. More fun to come I'm sure !

It's big.....very big and very very long. Nice photo's John. An f8 R35 is starting to look really good! Matt F/12 is a great length. Long depth of focus, lens well off the ground, steady views. Takes a G11 class mount to tame it. Combined with ED glass this must be a great scope. My 150 f/12 achromat hardly has any CA on moon so this must be pretty clean. Not that the little CA bothers me. My 127mm f12 sits on a G11. It handles the weight very well and could take more. A lot depends on whether you want tracking or not.

My 150 f15 works great on my G11 (non go to) with a strut and motorized moonlight focusing.

Nice L-o-n-g ,,, scope there John , I seen it in CN's , show us your refractor section just this morning . What mount are you looking to get for it ? , many choices but most very expensive , I would think an EQ6 with 14 inch extension on either a tall pier or longer hard wood legs would be ok . Nice scope mate and I look forward to seeing its evolution and more reports . My Istar 127mm f8 is a perfect match for the HEQ5 it sits on , nice set up those 2 together . Brian.

Hi Brian,
I'm looking into options for a really heavy duty alt-azimuth mount at the moment. The Bray Tablet mount is a possibility I think. If I can't find an alt-az solution then the EQ6 would be another option.
Hardwood legs are great for absorbing vibrations so those are on my list too

John I think alt az is ok but for what your scope is capable of , high power ( 300x plus ) Luna/Planetary and double stars and I think a good EQ6 on tall ( 2 metre minimum ) heavy hard wood legs would be a better option .
I know Matt ( boomboom ) here at Istar club made some for his EQ6 , and did a very nice job , maybe he will chime in here and post a few photos ? and give you a few pointers as well .
Personally I would not bother with GOTO as the standard EQ6's are cheep now on the 2nd hand market ( with the newer Pro and alt/az versions selling like hot cakes , not to mention the new EQ8 ) if you are fast and one will do very nicely , I think . Same heavy castings , worms and all that but the motors are heavier duty than the new Synscan ones in the GOTO mounts .
Your scope will look so sexy and be sweet to use on this combo , your choice tho , just my 5c worth . Please keep us informed as to what you decide. Brian.

One more thing John , here is my Istar 127mm f8 achromat on its HEQ5 , TelVue Ash Gibralter tripod that work so well together . Sturdy with plenty of hight adjustment. I machined up the stainless steel adaptor to marry the two together , I could not use the Stainless steel tripod as here at 12 degrees south the counter weights hit the legs , also it was not any where as sturdy as the TV ash tripod , vibrations dampen in 1-2 seconds , nice . Brian, Since we are on the subject of mounts. How do you like that IEQ45. I should be taking delivery of one very soon. I'm hoping it will be a good platform for some DSO imaging with our smaller scopes. I've read nothing but good reviews and it sure seems to have a lot of great features. Next time you have that Mewlon setup with the mount, take a picture and post it. I'd like to hear your impressions good or bad on the mount.

Good feedback on the EQ6 Brian. It would probably prove more cost effective than an alt-az solution as well. I've contacted a chap here who makes nice hardwood tripods for long refractors so I'll see what his views are on mounting this great one that I now have.

No problems John , happy to help I find us Istar owners to be the best kind of scope people , look at what James Ling does with showing people the night sky from the middle of Singapore using his 8 inch Istar, sweet , ( except 1 un-named dude ) and we have to put up with a lot of scope snobbery from all sides , you know the APO police , Cat people , large Newt dudes , from all sides and I would bet my left nut 75% of them aint looked thru a nice long throw Istar achromat like ours .
Please keep us informed as to how things go , I can see it now , 2.2 meter long HW sexy legs , EQ6 on top holding your 150mm f12 , CLASSIC ! beautiful and useable . Nice ! . ps. I hope Matt ( Boomboom ) is keeping up , he tells me he will be grabbing a 6 inch f12 lense and building a scope like yours and he already has an EQ6 on tall HW legs .
Brian.
