I enjoyed your post Brian. Thanks for the comparison. You get too caught up in the paper work all you get is frustration. My eyes are the final and determining test. We don't need any outside "experts" to tell us whether or not our scopes are any good. We have a large number of positive testimonials from our customers. And in my opinion, this is the best determination of any product.
I'm strictly a Televue eyepiece guy myself, Naglers, Panoptics and Powermates for imaging.

still no reply there Matt ? he's above us peasents . Brian. Hello Gord, Most of the technical jargon is beyond me but I would love to know what you thought of the R30 lens when you actually looked through it? How did it compare with your experience of the stock achros? Cheers, Matt

Wow!.... the venom. I remember reading this whole thread one evening and thinking that someone was being tarred , feathered and excommunicated. But seriously, Gord is a respected CN member and I don't want a rehash of the whole thing. I don't know if Gord "comes around these parts" much anymore, but I would like him to get some star time with an R30 F12 so that he can give effective feedback.
As only a fellow GTA'r will understand: 10/401. Anytime Gord.

Hi Stephen,
I appreciate the offer! I'm going to try to take you up on it, hopefully some day we will actually see stars again (man, what a long run of bad).
I've been working on some research in the background and was going to add some more info to the CN thread.
I'll send you a PM.
Thanks, -Gord

I think I've already answered Matt and we talked about it earlier in this thread and on the one on CN. Looks like I may get a chance soon! Hmmmm, never thought of myself as a "noble" before... Clear skies, -Gord

Gord and friends, we are producing several new scopes with the latest, totally overhauled R35 SLIM doublets. All of these will be produced in the super low weight TCR style, with or without dew shield and rear lens tube protector. Im talking about these
Asteria TCR 180-8 R35 Asteria TCR 180-12 R35 Asteria TCR 204-8 R35 Asteria TCR 204-12 R35
one of the R35 may be available for testing and I would love to send it over to Gord or meet Gord at one of the 2013 star parties so he can have the oportunity to look thru one of these doublets in person. So Gord, please contact me again about this in about 10 week time, we should have some of these done by then. Have a great day, talk to you soon, cheers, Ales

To good 'Sire' ,,, but in all honesty I am more than happy with my Istar scope , and Gord hope you get the chance to evaluate Istars scopes some time soon , they are good . Ha ha ha, that has kind of a nice ring to it! I have had experience with their lenses already (2 of them) and still have (and use) the 6" F10 classic achro. This one is among their first offerings on the market and I have been using it since early 2010. The other was a problem lens and I suspect a difficult design to even get right so I can understand why the line was dropped. Hopefully soon I will get a chance to try out that local R30 and do a head-to-head with the classic. Clear skies! -Gord

204/8 R35 should be enough increase from my 160 to have a wow factor I've no idea why I like f/8, maybe because I started with f/8 refractor? I like the look of the rail scope, reminds me of sci-fi ray projectors. But a lot of thought needed on my end about fielding one, mount and etc. I am still waffling about a lot, recently bought a 'baby-Q' so i cant waffle about that anymore. maybe I am just a waffle-master.

Astropaolo, I have a TCR 204-8 R35 and a TCR 204-12 R35 coming in a couple of days. Hopefully they have left the Prague airport by now. Ales hasn't published a price yet. I will be doing some testing first but not until I come back from California and the SCAE show on about the 22nd. We ship our scopes from the US. It may be possible to ship you one from the Czech Republic but no promises. Even then the focuser and lens would have to be shipped from the US. A Hydrogen Alpha lens can be special ordered from us. We have made a few recently and the customers were extremely happy with them. One was delivered to a "professional" research observatory in France. Hard to believe isn't Gord? The customer is a professional astronomer and he is pleased with his lens What will happen next? Couldn't resist buddy... Mike I don't know if we will produce a 150-8 R35. I don't see why not. Update: we now have 150mm F8 R35 lenses.
