I am now working on Asteria TCR 204-8 R35 which is supler low weight Truss style scope in F8 and R35 SLIM doublet. Cost of the entire scope including rings, US made focuser and Losmandy wide dovetail will be somehwere in 4200-4500 dollar range. We want to switch most super short FL scopes into new R35 even though these lenses are more expensive. To my opinion the image quality cant be beat by any other achromatic doubelt currently on the market. Also the F8 is ideal for DSOs and will also work with the upcoming Raycorr so even planetary views will be greatly optimized, we hope to the point of a very good visual APO. If your budget is limited (like most of us.. ) than we can possibly produce Phoenix TCR 204-6 for you. The design itself will take 6 weeks, production 6-8 weeks, total wait time 3-4 months. Remember that price of the scope will be higher becuase producing TCRs is much more extensive, more than double of CNC work, also we use block material (not moded parts or pre-cut parts). The price estimate is 3299 dollars. I will honor this price even if the actual price may end up to be higher. So let me know, I will be more than happy to help you with this project. By the way, we tested the Perseus TCR 150-12 truss Krivanek OTA and we did not see any loss of resolution or any other problem with this construction. I an only recommend it to anyone who needs a very light, super sturdy refractor. Remember, we are not yet offering the dew shields. They will available as an extra accessory for those who need them (most do not). Cost of the special dew shield should not go over 150 dollar price tag. Im awaiting your reply, write directly to Mike Harden at mike@istar-optical.com because Mike will log in your order. Dont forget to supply your full name, shipping address and day time phone number. Im leaving my European office nex week and I wont be able to respond to emails until February 22nd, 2013. During this time you can contact Mike Harden (sales, stock management, shipments, testing) or Gay Ann Ward (card payments and accounting). Have a wonderful day, talk to you soon. Best regards, Ales

Ales:
This is so impressive! Elegant and efficient design, well thought out for thermal management. I saw a comment elsewhere about mounting plates for Vixen and Losmandy clamping. I designed a reversable plate to fit either format, flip it over and re-bolt to the rings for the mount you're using. I use it for several of my scopes. No need for two separate mounting plates.

Dear Jim, not sure if I understand your comments about vixen/losmandy plates. We designed a special clamps (not really rings) for all these TCR tubeless refractors and they cost fraction compared to regular PRO Mounting Rings and they simply work with any dovetail for example Vixen narrow, Vixen wide, Losmandy 60mm, Losmandy 80mm. So can you share drawing of your idea or describe it better in words to me, thank you, Ales

I don't have any photos handy. I now understand what you meant by mounting plates.
Thanks. Jim

I haven't been on-line in quite awhile. This design (TCR-Low Weight Telescope Construct) is a great idea - looks good. Makes me start considering making some changes too. Jon

Hi Ales....
I have one question to ask you with regards to your TCR-Low weight telescope design....
Since I have only a car, I just wondering can the base of this TCR design be overlapping in such a way that it comprises of 3 parts, whereby 2 top pieces are placed and mounted onto the bottom one that will be the one that will use to mount onto the saddle of the mount....
I am asking this question is that if I want to go for 250 F11 R35 version, the horizontal beam will be 9Ft long.... So if I can separate them, it will be just 4.5ft long.... As such maybe the design will be consisting of 3 x 4.5Ft beam... Then all the individual parts can be loaded into a car, and transported to the field for star gazing.....
of course my current G11 mount may no longer be able to take the weight, but if your whole setup is around 60 Lbs, why not give a try then....before I upgrade to the pro Mount...
Perhaps this is only my possible dream scope, in the near future, since my main priorities is high power.....
