Any chance you would know the amount of back focus on the 6" F/5 Comet Hunter? I'm researching binoviewers and would like to know before I actually get my scope and measure myself.

As soon as that lens comes in I will have to test it before shipping to you. I will try to remember to check this for you. However, it's unlikely your binos will come to focus. Every refractor I have ever used had to have a corrector. Harry Seibert at Siebert Optics has them at a very reasonable price. Maybe $149? It worked perfectly.
We've had special requests in the past to build a refractor shorter to accommodate binos. But, this often limits the use of some eyepieces. We try to set the focal length somewhere in the middle to accommodate anything from an orthoscopics to a Naglers. There is usually not enough in-focus.

Ok. Thanks Mike. I talked to Harry day before yesterday. The BV I want is his Black Night 25's. optical path full length is 100mm on them. He also has options for free floating T2 connector on the BV's. I could attach directly to a maxbright diagonal and shorten the distance further. He sounded reassured I should be able to get it to work with his 1x OCA. He has a nice return policy too. 60 days, so I'm hopeful. Don't want to order until I have the scope or the measurement and know the scope will be arriving within a week. 4-6 weeks delivery time on BN25's. someone suggested buying a second tube and cutting it a bit to get full low power use with BV's, and using the regular size tube for mono. I suppose one would have the tubes all ready to go with complete Focuser on each one, then move the lens in between tubes when switching for an evening. After talking with Harry though, I think the BN25's should work with his OCA. Thanks again. I did order my 30mm 82 degree eyepiece from ES. Should get around 3.2 degrees in the comet hunter with it! It was on sale for a great price. I couldn't resist. I'll hold off on any BV purchase until measured to be sure.

I agree with Mikey. Buy two complete telescopes so you don't have to switch lenses

I agree with Mikey. Buy two complete telescopes so you don't have to switch lenses Haha. Wouldnt that be cool though? I'm pretty sure Harry can get me some OCA that will work with minimal magnification. I think Mikey missed the rest of my post or at least the "I suppose" part. Haha. Just musing on that one. I'm holding off until I measure and most likely the BN25's with 1x OCA will work. Even if 1.25x OCA, it shouldn't be too much an increase. Hey, who knows...if I like binoviewing as much as I like binoculars and my binocular telescope, I might have to get on his wait list for the 2" Echelon BV's and get a shortened scope to do binoviewing full time. Harry was saying the BN25's should work on my MCT also because of the movable mirror. I'm going to pick up a pair of his eyepieces too. The 19's. I like his products and wholeheartedly support the idea of his one man show with custom products.

How we looking here? Any ETA yet on shipping? One week, two weeks, three weeks? Trying to plan out some things here. I got a chance last night to try out some new eyepieces in my MCT. The eyepieces were ordered primarily to use in the WFT though. 30mm ES 82 degree, 24mm 68, 14mm 82. All should be well corrected for F/5.

Well, I switched gears on the BV purchase and bought a BT instead. Glad I did, as it came yesterday all the way from Germany with a couple eyepiece pairs and a nice Teknosky eLLe mount.
APM 100ED Semi-Apo 45. 100mm objectives, 45 degree oculars.
It's a thing of beauty. Trying out pairs of ES 24mm 68 degree, Skywatcher Flat Field 19mm's, ES 14mm 82 degree, 9mm TS HR-60's.
I've realized this binoviewer thing is going to be a must have with the comet hunter. Even if I had to use a 1.8x OCA, I think the 24's, 19's, and 14's will be superb in it. Maybe the 9's too high power. Don't know yet, but those pairs all were spectacular in Binocular Telescope. It was a good thing to get an entirely separate instrument. I can setup side by side to WFT when it gets here. Let a few people look at the same time.

Saw the announcement section on the clearance and lenses would be 5 week wait. Does that include 5 week wait on the R35 lenses too?

No, the R35s are due in anytime now. I'm just waiting for the tracking info. Having the holidays right in the middle of the expecting shipment always puts a big delay in place.

The word I have is the lenses are finished. I'm just waiting for tracking information etc. I'm not waiting on a tube for yours but our tube shipment has been delayed also. Believe me not a day goes by when I am not thinking about people waiting on their scopes and lenses. It's actually a source of stress that I don't need but what am I going to do? From this point on I am going to look at the realistic time for shipping and at least double it

I imagine you are settling in again after WSP, but I sent several emails. The last being the most important. Please respond when you get the chance after unpacking from your event. Thanks.

Well, this is my last post here as I won't be an Istar owner, but have to say two things first before going - IIE views for astronomy are incredible. Dropped a big chunk on equipment, but man oh man, I've never seen so much detail in any previous scope I've looked through. Using an IIE worked giving me the most detailed Orion's Nebula views I've ever seen. In nearly full moon and heavy light pollution right from my backyard. H-Alpha filtering is where it's at with IIE views.
Also - Ales sent me a very nice email that explained a lot of things and I want to thank him publicly for the response and explanation. Good luck with Istar and future sales. Your email communication was very much appreciated. I know you didn't really have to explain anything but you did and did it very eloquently. It went a very long way in keeping my opinion of Istar good.
If someone were to combine IIE views with one of these comet hunters, I bet the results would rock.
I'm out - see you on other forums....
