I own the latter scope and love it. Is there any appreciable benefit of the former over the latter that would suggest I purchase it? Would color correction be the only thing?

Thanks, that's what I figured. I would never trade my f15, I just love that scope. I was asking because I was interested in purchasing the scope that you linked.
He is selling his scope for a great price but he turned my offer down and then I went and bought some Pentax XOs.

Does anyone know if that scope (Forfax 140-12) ever sold? I searched for it and it's not to be found. I even went to his profile and there is no record of it. I guess he deleted it?

I was absolutely amazed someone didn't grab that scope up quickly for $2500. It was a steal at that price. People are always complaining about the high price of APO and they can't afford them. Then, someone puts a fantastic brand new triplet on Astromart for a ridiculous price and it doesn't sell... Maybe it's the economy?

The economy can't be that bad! If I had more than a CG-5 mount, I would have bought it myself. I'm gonna have to get a bigger mount any way, but the extra scope would have put me that much farther out on my 9" plans.

So did he sell his scope or just changed his mind and took this off his ad offerings. I mean the lens and focuser was worth 2500.. tells you something about the market these days... no further comments. Someone please let me know about this ad situation, thank you, Ales

I believe that our recent decision to produce only two more of these scopes and than phase out production of these long focus APOs is a good one. We will rather put more efforts into developing a super fast top of the line CaF2 Super APOs, next one on the market will be the 175 F7 or possibly 180 F7. Than smaller 165 F7 as well as 110 F7. The 130 F6 will remain to be FPL53 under the Phoebe astrograph line. I shoot for the OTA sale price at around 3000 dollar range. Most people are not educated enough about the general advanates of the long focus APOs. Otherwise these scope would sell much better. .. cheers, Ales

I think OPT bought it. They have a "used" Forfax 140 for sale in their store.
I debated long and hard about purchasing it from the original seller but the Perseus works so well I could not rationalize the purchase.

So the new lanthanum triplets are out too Ales? I would have thought that the F/9 or so that you were talking about would be very reminiscent of the early large APO's and being true APO's would have been a good seller for those looking for historical proportions with modern day performance.

If they have a used Forfax 140-12 in their store, it's definitetly it. Smart move on their part as they can make some money on it. If you want to know for sure it has a green Moonlight focuser on it. I wonder what they are asking for it...

I just verified by a call to OPT that they do in fact have the scope in their showroom for $3195. I just sent an email to a guy who was inquiring about one. The price was up to over 4 grand from us so someone is going to get a good deal and a great scope that looks like brand new. Thanks for the tip Mr. Istarmullet.
