Hi All. Has been busy for quite a while, after the lunar Eclipse , and also due to some work related issue............ I even missed last week star gazing trip to Malaysia due to the situation is very bad...... Fortunately the whole issue is resolved early this week, and I am able to plan with a few of my friends , for this coming weekend Mars opposition sidewalk at a local library area. Of course I will bring the 8" F8.8 Istar there, as I have never seen Mars with this massive scope..... I'll keep all of you update on this coming weekend sidewalk event... And if the weather is not promising, then I will do it , in the following week, before Mars gets smaller...... You can see how I have dressed up the ISTAR with a classic look for this coming event....... REgards James Ling Attachments:

Dear James,
definitely keep us posted about your Mars observing session. I will soon be getting my own scope (most likely 180 F/8 R30 or possibly 180 F/11 R30) since I still dont have a scope of my own even though I produce scopes for others... I would much rather have 170 or 180mm Fluorite Super APO but I must wait for that one.. so again, keep us posted and thanks for sharing the latest, Ales

Nice design, James. As Ales says "Keep us posted". Hi Borispider. Thanks..... Hi All. As I have already seen through this scope on numerous occasion, both sidewalk and star gazing activities or event..... Especially on Jupiter, is comparable to any 6" APO triplet... not on the CA, but on the details within the jupiter surface.... And I have seen Mars through my C14 and Mewlon 10", I would be able to give my commend on how the Istar perform against them. Will keep everyone update after the coming sidewalk event. Hi All.
Last weekend is really a total disappointment......as the weather being cloudy the whole day and night...... As such my friends and myself decided to postpone to this coming weekend instead....
Weather at equatorial is really unpredictable... With the previous week being excellent for night astronomy, but then the whole of last week is totally different....
And from the weather forecast, it seems that this whole week may not be promising.... But perhaps , come to this weekend, everything may change again.....
Will update everyone again, after this weekend planned sidewalk event.....
Regards
James Ling

Guys, I ask you for some time on Mikes behalf. Mike was kind enough to send me a set of nice pictures, Im more than happy to share some with you. Mike is putting an article about WSP together and Im sure he will post it right here in ISC first before the CN and AM people get hold of it. So here is first photograph, my personal favorite.. Mike and his toy.. our flagship Fluorite super APO triplet Phantom CFT 152-8. Enjoy! Couple more are coming. cheers, Ales Attachments:

Wow....
Now I know how big and massive is the Fluorite super APO triplet Phantom CFT 152-8...... It looks so huge even on the pro mount......
No wonder my G11 G2 is so small when the Istar 8" is mounted onto it.....
And now I've seen Mike in this photo, and hope to see Ales as well beside one of his ISTAR........one of this day.......Hahaha....

Nice pic of Mike and his scope. Can't wait for the article. And sorry if I seemed a little pushy about it in that other thread. Didn't mean too.

Actually the angle from which the scope was taken makes it look bigger than it actually is. This scope is not any bigger than other 6" F/8 refractor.. but I agree, it does look huge on this photograph.. cheers, Ales Regards James Ling

Yesterday weather suddenly turns better, but I am stationed in oversea , and only able to return back to my country on this coming weekend. Nevertheless I called up one of my oversea friend , who has the Celestron 4SE, and we set up at night and do a simple night obs on the moon, Saturn and Mars. And my goodness, Mars is so small even I cranked the magnification up of the 4SE with an 4mm ep, at around 300X. Hopefully I can crank my Istar to 500X , in order to see more details on the Mars surface, if this coming weekend the weather is better... for the sidewalk event..... Perhaps only Mike and Ales can comment on the Istar performance on mars......hahaha......
