I gave up on stargazing. I'm observing and studying the various layers of cirrus, haze and stratus clouds as they take turns tormenting me.
My goal is substantial completion in 7 days of evening work. For various reasons I haven't been in my shop for a few days. This'll undoubtably stretch out to 3 weeks or so with powder coat painting and anodizing of parts. I made the mistake of boring out a 7" disk I had in the shop instead of purchasing a thick walled pipe. Talk about boring work :>), very time consuming to remove most of the interior. Jim

Some updates to the build. The focuser base plate that mates to the tube is finished except for a few holes to be drilled on the mill. Attachments:

Looking good, Jim! I can see how anything bigger than a 6" could be a problem on that lathe, though. Man, would I be happy if I had the room to do that much, though. I can't even fit a mini lathe in to learn on!

Joe: Here's an update. The countercell came off the lathe and onto the mill last night. I've got to drill the lens cell mounting screws today. There's still a few holes to drill on a few parts, measure exact focal length, cut OTA, drill mounting holes, etc, etc. Jim Attachments:

I'm in the middle of a house move so things are on hold for a few weeks. I've got to wrap this project up before I shut my workshop down for what will probably be an extended period.

Here I am hoping to move in the near future so I can finally have a workshop!
I hope your move will be beneficial to your astronomy as well as any other reasons for the move.
Good luck Joe
