Hi All.... It does not take long maybe just less than 5 mins after the start of the Solar Eclipse, the Sun appears from the blocked trees and low clouds... For my 8" ISTAR , as the aperture is too big, I made and put up a mask to reduce it to only 6" aperture , since I am using the Lunt Solar wedge filter.... The whole football stadium with thousands of people all over the field roared and screamed when the sun is fully appeared while I quickly get the scope prepared for the public to view.... The following are photos of the public seen queuing up to get a chance to see the Sun being covered gradually by the moon at 45X power which I used a 40mm eye piece... I would say the Lunt Solar Wedge is giving very high contrast view of the Sun when viewed through the 8" ISTAR after I step down to 6" aperture...

Hi All.... Although in Singapore , the solar Eclipse coverage is only close to 90%, but this is our best for more than 17 years since the last annular eclipse , we do enjoyed so much for the 2 hours of Solar eclipse event.... And the next one which in Singapore , we can witness in 26th Dec 2019 , is the annular eclipse...... But as for me and my 8" Istar, the next coming event will be end May Mars opposition, which I will report again on how much detail the ISTAR can see ..... and if possible get a good video and photo of it....in the month of May and June... Thank You... Regards James Ling

Hi All...
After waiting for 3 weeks of bad weather.... finally yesterday the weather took a turn and can see clearer sky but a slight haze over it....
Actually last friday night when I rush bad from oversea ... The sky is also quite clear but already 10pm... and our group went ahead while I rush down with my 10" mewlon...which is easy to load into my car with the mount and accessoriea...
As I just back from last night outreach and unpack and is already past 1am.. And this morning before 6am I must rust back again for my oversea assignment.. as such I will let all of you know the detail report later this evening.....when I am back from work...
Regards
James

James don't you use the Chromacor anymore? If not then why not? My big 10" F/11 shows a color free Jupiter as I leave my Chromacor in 100% of the time. Also do you have other amateurs with their scopes....if not why not? I would be completely worn out with all that body count and stupid questions that I know are definitely asked. I've been to enough public events to know how really idiotic some people can be. You're a good man my friend....but don't kill yourself! Hah hah! Mike

Hi Mikey Cee..
Yes.. my chromacorr II N is always used with my 8" Istar..
Last Friday coz I just back from my oversea assignment.. is just too much preparation and time needed to bring out the Istar.. so I use the 10" mewlon instead..
But for yesterday.. i have enough time to bring out the 8" Istar.. and now together with my recent 2 other scopes that I used at Mars..( C14 and 10" newlon ) I can concluded that the chromacorr II N really work wonders...
I will present last night detail of the observation session once I have the photos sent by my friend...including utube video which my friend will download..

James great video. No CA but you should look into purchasing a ZWO AD corrector(ADC). I can see the orange and blue on Mars' limbs. I'm glad I bought one. Only $128 with shipping....that's highway robbery for something that good!! Mike

Hi Mikey Cee.. Thanks for the comment.. I may consider your suggestion... Hi All.. I did a simple post in CN under refractor forum...and u can see the picture of my setup towering 7ft high... www.cloudynights.com/topic/460728-post-a-picture-of-your-refractors-part-7/page-77I couldn't post any photo using my handphone in this ISTARSCOPECLUB forum but in CN is easy... But I will post the full report asap.. Regards James Ling

If Mars is high overhead in Singapore would it be likely to have differential atmospheric dispersion on the limbs? I thought this only occurs at low elevations? I'm not arguing with you, merely curious as to other possible causes under these rather special circumstances.

Hi All...
Hope for those who have never seen through the planetary views of Mars through a huge refractor like Mikey Cee's 10" ...whether is APO or achro with chromacorr II... these 2 video clips is meant to describe how much details u can see ...
In actual...when u visually look through the eye piece.. although Mars is not huge at 19 arc sec...but the details is stunning. At my local time around 8pm.. Syrtis Major is just nicely position in the centre view.. and it is so easily explained and getting the public to look at it.. coz it looks like the map of India... The sharpness is so distinct that is not blur image you seen in these 2 videos.. They are very dark and fine contrast...
I have earlier seen Mars through my C14 one month earlier around 15 arc sec and the dark patches on surface of Mars is very blur..But it still shows a bulged out feature like polar cap..
Last friday.. I used Mewlon for the public outreach in this park.. and is so bright that I need a polarizer to reduce the glare.. But again like the C14.. the dark patch on surface of Mars is blur like what u seen in these 2 video clips..
For last Friday and Sunday night public outreach.. My scopes are not able to capture Mars polar cap...
Hope all of u enjoy the above comparison on the views of Mars through my 3 big telescopes.
Regards
James Ling
