Aloha from Hawaii Ladies and Gentlemen. I am so happy to come across this club. ISTAR is a true blessing for astronomers. That what I can say now.
Clear Skies.

I second that welcome Hunor. I don't believe we have an Istar scope in Hawaii but if you order one I will insist that it be hand delivered by me Mike

Thank you and Mahalo for your welcoming from Australia. Wow! You can view those satellite galaxies from a front row. We here, just read about it. But aligning the scope to the North, well, we can say Polaris makes it very easy for us. As for your question, if I own an Istar. No, I am not. Yet. However, I am following their very impressive progress, basically from the beginning. And yes, I am contemplating to get one in the future. Right now my finances does not allow me to go further with what equipment I have currently. I have: - Orion 14 in truss Dobsonian
- Celestron 6R on a CGEM hypertuned
- Explore Scientific ED80 with all gadgetry for astrophotography if I ever start doing it.
- Great EPs and too many other thing that we think we need.

Yes, you are absolutely right. There is no one yet who own an Istar. But it could change. Your offer to hand deliver one, if I order one, sounds to me more then just a nice gesture. It is an honor. I would entertain you here, in this very unique part of the world. Well, the truth is that I follow the company's progress from almost the beginning, but I just still could not get one.
First, you learn the sky and then build up your arsenal. I am still in this process. I do have however, the 6R from Celestron. I read your thread about this scope and is probably true. The glasses not custom made. Some of them ok and some are very questionable. What you pay what you get. Mine, luckily, gives me very decent and sharp images. But it would cost around $500.00 only.
If my finances would allow me later, I would go with an 8 inch(!) one you make though. (Too heavy to carry with you )
Nonetheless, I have a question for you. Is that possible that I could replace somehow the optics in the Celestron which measures 150mm, not 152mm, with your optics? I know it is tough but just asking. if yes, that would be more affordable for me in the present time.
That is it for now Mike and again your reply was a great pleasure to me. God bless you and your work.
Clear Skies

I was trying to work on a fairly inexpensive way to replace a Celestron 150mm F8 with our lens. In the middle of the project I guy I was working with stole the Celestron pieces I purchased used on Amart. I got so frustrated over the whole thing that I gave up on the project. Our lens cell will not work with Celestron's counter cell. It would require an adapter. The question is do you want to invest $600 or more into an old Celestron tube?

Hello Hunor:
Your Hunor alias reminds me for the ancient Hungarian saga of Hunor and Magor...
I previously replaced a Meade 6" f/8 refractor lens to an Istar 6" f/8 R30. It was not a cheap project but the result was very satisfying. My Meade 6" f/8 LXD 75 was a very similar one to your Celestron scope. The changeover result was amazing, my Istar lens was so much superior than the Meade. For me it was well worth. However, Mike is right, this kind of project is expensive. And once you have a great lens in the tube, you will need a great focuser too. You may be better off saving for a complete Istar scope. Thank you Viktor for taking your time replying me. I am so glad that your project, even if it was expensive and challenging, was a great success. You were tenacious and it proved your great capacities. Besides, your lens was not stolen. What a shameful story from Mike. You are right. I think too, the best way is for me just go with an original Istar.
And, you have a GIANT! Wow! Can I see some pictures of it? That is almost 2m in length and 9inch aperture. Oh my... and the AP900 is able to manage it. it must be a beautiful rig for sure. Congratulations Viktor.
Viktor, you spell your name as Hungarians spell it. Are you Hungarian or somewhat Hungarian? I am Hungarian. I thought you might be too because this story not very well known outside of Hungary. If not Hungarian, yes, our origin is a bit mythical even to me; where exactly the Hungarians came from, who we were and who we are. The Turul Bird, Nimrod, the Taltos Attila, the Het Vezer (seven commanders)and so on. Wedged in nations in Europe, totally isolated with their language they speak and the tough, rough and sometimes bloody past makes us very unique.
Must go now. Have a nice weekend Viktor

I have seen your post on your new 9 inch Istar. Sir, it is very impressing. It seems to me you are also very knowledgeable and technically inclined astronomer. You really know what you're doing. That is great. I wish I was like that. Congratulations again Viktor.
