I'm an ex-astronomer about to become an astronomer again and my medium range plans will likely include an Istar 204 WFT. What sort of mount can handle this scope? It seems that the G11 is a common on, is the Atlas too small? Any other players?
And what about the F9 204mm? I imagine that it's needs are ever more severe.
Note, this would be a field mount, not a permanent one.
Thanks!

Hello,
please let us know if you want to use this scope strictly for visual or also for imaging. Either way, you will NOT need a substantial, expensive mount for this scope. Remember that it has only about 13 kilos including rings and focuser. I can only suggest one of the newer iOptron mounts, Mike Harden will talk to you in more detail about this. You can contact him directly at mike@istar-optical.com best regards, Ales

opps, sorry. Visual only. I dabbled in astrophotography a few years back and although I enjoyed it became quickly apparent to me that astrophotography could easily consume all my time and all my money so I wisely backed out... :- )
Nice to hear that i don't need something huge, that helps out with the budget a lot. I'll be staying away from the iOptron line though, I heard good things about them yes, but also some things that don't make me happy. I'll stick with the more established brands for now. I do wish them success though and my views could always change.
I'll contact Mike, thanks!

The APM AZ-MAX mount will take it with ease, or the AOK Swiss larger alt-az. I have the APM, if you wanted digital setting circles or computer push-to then the AOL mount can be fitted with them. These will take the weight of a C14 tube assembly so would take your refractor with ease. If you did want a driven equatorial then the Ioptron mounts are great value for money. Buy Ioptron from a reputable dealer like Istar and you know if anything goes wrong you are covered. You will love the telescope! I have no affiliation with any of these companies apart from being a very satisfied customer.
