It's great to see the new sections popping up here & there.
So what's your pref.?
I'm partial to film. I like the black&white look plus I think film gives me a sharper image. Plus it's cheaper :-)

Film...for all your reasons! Here is a photo of my solar slide on solar film set up. Take off the regular dewshield and slide this on, one of the joys of ATMing! No chance of this ever falling off! Matt

I personally like to use home built optical filter assemblies instead. This one provides me with high intensity UV-A light. I designed it myself after several years of learning the science

And these are the "white light flares" it provides. Attachments:

I like the idea of glass but the guy at Astro Zap swears up and down that the film is better so I bought one to fit a 6 inch. I need to spend more time on it to decide. I really like this new product being released at NEAF this weekend: Quark by DaystarLove the idea of using any refractor I want to from a 100mm to 200mmm.

Film IS certainly better than 99% of all front mounted glass white light filters (i think zeiss makes one glass filter that is actually very great optically). The only actual exception here for better images than the film is a herschel wedge on an apo telescope. Also note that you probably could not buy a 30" diameter glass solar filter to fit over those hulkish mirror scopes found this on google. www.cruxis.com/scope/img1070/1070_SolarObs_full.jpgAttachments:

Cool picture Apollo. That is one gigantic solar scope! I'd like to see some images taken through that.
