Glend,
Beautiful workmanship! I love the rounded finish you have on the baffle plates. What kind of wood have you used?

Looks Great Glen. Can't wait to see the finished product. Sorry about the miscommunication about shipping via UPS. To Australia it would be ridiculously expensive. USPS will get it there in about 10 days. Keep posting your progress.

Glend, sorry to hear about your situation. I live in Canada, and shipping used to be not an issue. The costs are becoming quite high now and it effects my purchase decisions. Over the years I have switched to USPS as my only carrier that I use. The cost is lower and I have never had a problem. I have had a few bad experiences with UPS, enough that I never want to use them again. Of course Australia is different. I hope all works out in the end.

We will not remove this thread from the board. The customer emailed me and I mistakenly told him we prefer UPS. Which we do in the US. Failing to remember he was from Australia and not saying USPS was a mistake and a miscommunication on my part. USPS was clearly recorded in the customer list by me. I answer hundreds of emails weekly. I think for the most part I do pretty good in conveying accurate information. We charge on average $85 for lenses 150mm and smaller to Australia. This is not enough. It just barely covers the actual shipping and insurance charge and really doesn't take into consideration boxes (2), tape, peanuts, an individuals time packing and transporting to the post office nearly 20 miles away. I did a quote for UPS and the cost to ship the same lens to Australia was $235.16 still not taking into consideration all these extra expenses. This order was handled in a timely and appropriate manner except of course for the obvious email mistake concerning the carrier. Overall, USPS had done a great job for us. I'm sure the package will only take a few days longer than UPS. I believe 10 days or so is about average. My mistake has outraged this customer so much that it is beyond my understanding. My quick admission to making a mistake and apology made no difference and I was asked to never contact him again.

$$$ ? , have the costs really gone up that much in the last 15 months ? I remember my 127mm lense cost only $70 from Istar to Darwin Australia and in exactly 10 days , I was more than impressed and said so at the time . It seems that Glen has got a lot more off-side here for a simple break down in communication ? , maybe he was having a bad week as his comments are over the top by plenty , thanks Mike for keeping this thread alive .
Stupidity , and I think there is more behind this than Glen says .

I agree with Brian, the costs of shipping couldn't be the only reason for this behaviour. I was really impressed with the efforts Mike went to ensuring that shipping costs to me were minimised. In fact, giving the high tech packing materials used I am sure Istar must have taken a loss overall. Well, time to move on I guess, plenty of other interesting projects to read about out there.

Despite his warning not to contact him again, I wrote another email in an effort to find out what was really wrong and extend another apology for the misinformation. I received a delivery receipt which proves he received the email. So, I know he read it. He replied to my email saying that it was blocked and sent to the trash. What else can I do other than NEVER give a customer the wrong shipping information. I could ask Ales to take me "outback" and flog me.

I hope I don't get anyone off side and to all who are interested, but this build is continuing in our Ice in Space "ATM' forums here in OZ .

Just as a final note in the "giant shipping debacle" the package was delivered yesterday according to the tracking information so it took a total of 8 days to arrive. That sounds like pretty good time to me. How much sooner would UPS have delivered it? For $120 more? I read the post on Ice in Space and nothing negative has been posted. I wish him the best and hope his project turns out well and does our lens justice
