My new perseus 150F10 arrived monday and i had just completed my new pipe mount on sunday, believe it or not last night was clear so out i went for some observing. the build quality of the Istar is outstanding in everyway. no clouds no moon but seeing was horrible last night the clear sky chart was white on seeing, even so the istar delivered the best view of jupiter i can remember. my ES AR152 is one great scope that i love to use but the istar blew it away! the difference in CA was way more than i would have believed and the detail down to the whisps of clouds off the belts was a testament of the lens quality. this scope was worth every penny i paid after one night. the moonlite focuser really does live up to their reputation. cant wait for an evening of good seeing! more to follow. i have built pipe mounts for several years i found this one perfect for the job. no vibration, almost instant damping, smooth tracking even directly overhead on jupiter at over 200X i can be out to observe set up in 10 minutes flat, does that mean i have one of the rare perseus 150F10 grab and go's! Pretty slick mount it does the job. How do you adjust the tension for the Azi and lat? How much weight is your counter balance weight? Again good job building that and designing it to work for you. --------------------- Bill

If you notice the left and right are slightly offset in elevation so if you tighten the cross piece bolts it increases the tension. If you tighten them fully it will not move up and down. Notice the eye bolt on top I tighten it when mounting and dismounting the scope

The design was to add a margin of reliability/safety most pipe mounts leave the scope hanging out to one side with little safety this gives you two bearings and they are tied together. You could mount two scopes one per side and on top you can mount other things in my case a digital inclinometer so I have setting circles.

I like how that decal practically glows in the dark.

This is very encouraging news.
I'm very happy for you but now your post has put me in a state of high expectations as I was informed today by UPS that my Asteria 150 F8 is due for delivery Friday. Christmas in March? well, it's been that kinda winter anyway so why not.

WOW! Just opened it.
People describe it as a tank? I think a Big Black Hummer with Candy Apple trim is more apropos.
If telescopes were female I'd nominate it for Miss Universe!
No Chinois corners cut with this scope.

Congratulations, as i have said by far the best deal in astronomy and quality the others wish they delivered! how many times has an unboxing review of other manufacturers been full of shortcomings and items that need to be replaced or upgraded, Not with my ISTAR. Mine is the f10 version and yours is the F8 can you imagine the F15! Never seen one in person, be interesting picking it up!

By the way I caught the 30% moon the other night, conditions were still marginal/poor but I enjoyed crisp, sharp views at 300X! I had to move the moon and slowly let it drift in to see any CA at all only the slightest fringe at the split second before the moon actually entered the view, I did that so I could determine if there was any since I wasn't seeing it. My filters have stayed in the case all three nights I've used it! I was using an astrotech af70 5MM if anyone wanted to know the combo.
