YAWN !!! Just got in from a big night viewing saturn in the 127mm Achromat and waow what a good view , looking up from underneath the planet at the bottom of the wide open rings , just great ! my 8mm TV Radian gave the best views at 125x . First of many this saturn season and its looking good for another session tonight , the dry season is here! yippe ... Brian.

Hey there Brian, Long time since posting here for me....the scope looks great and what a nice set of wooden legs you have! How is the Istar with the Bino's, and can you reach focus without the OCS? If you can is the view as good or is the OCS a designed part of the system. Dry season, you lucky man. Cheers mate Matt

Well I just spent 10 miniuts typing a detailed reply to all , but it seens to have dissapared Photos arrived tho ?? Here is my new HEQ5 (non-goto) and the c/weight leg clash at 18 degrees south , i live at 12 degrees so this tripod is no good here , no worries , I just machined up a stainless steel adaptor to fit the HEQ5 Istar onto my TelVue Gibralter , a 2-3 second dampening time compared to 3-4 with the SW tripod , it is also able to be used up yo 1600mm tripod hight , not the 1200mm of the SW'r so its a lot more comfortable at the zenith . Matt I will reply on the binoviewers next , it all dissapared Brian.

Ha ha , it worked , Matt as to your question , I dont need to use a barlow with my scope , it comes to focus using the supplied WO's 20mm and el/cheepo Bintel 40mm plossls's I like the 40mm the best , a nice low powered view with a little vignetting if I look for it . The 20mm WO's are good but the plossles when barlowed give the view of the moon a real 3D look to it , my favorite . If the clouds clear tonight that is what I will be doing , Istar/Saxon , HEQ5 , bino viewers and barlowd 40mm plossl's ,, nice . Brian.

Just to keep the thread going here is one of my favourite shots of my sweet Istar/ Saxon ,, minus the Istar decals . Brian.

Hi Brian...
It will be nice to hear from you how your Istar 127mm performs at Mars now......
I just enjoyed looking through the 8" ISTAR at Mars , at 450X last night, under a cloudy and hazy sky...
Regards
James Ling

Mars is an , excuse my French ( bastard ) to view , the seeing is so telling , I was out tonight and Saturn took 200x easily ,, but blardy Mars was hard at 125x ? , a real tease this 'God of War' . But yes when the seeing allows like a few nights ago my 127mm gave sweet views up to 250x nicely the caps super sharp and the dark marks fun to follow in the seeing ,, great when it was steady , this is when the Istar shines . Its a bugger that work takes president over planetary viewing thru a sweet refractor , its 10pm here and as I start at 4am week mornings ,,, you know ....scope getting put away , someone's gotta pay for my astronomy habit ? . Thanks again James . Brian.

The iStar evolves , I have grabbed a 2nd hand 50mm , SV 90 degree finder and mounted it on the iStar , what a great piece of kit ! , its a fine small telescope in its own right being able to fit my 1 1/4 inch eyepieces into the diagonal it takes neary 100x without break down , I am impressed with this 50mm finder . I think it compliments the iStar well , and its a joy to use as well . Also I have here a photo of the 127mm f8 and new SV finder in use at a star party we had reciently , as always the iStar performed brilliantly and showed better deep sky objects and latter on detail on Jupiter as well than both the WO 110 triplet and UO 115mm triplet its such a great all round scope , I love it ! Brian.
